Good Book
This is the 1st book I've read written by Vikki Romano; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books. The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.I loved the chemistry between the characters.I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

Lots of go
Facinating. Well done. However, i just could not accept thenotion of speeding up body healing and increased strength. Certainly, some enhancements are believable, but not extrere strength, speed healing. After all our hero does not come from Kripton.

Edge of Darkness Book 1
Cliffhanger notice. Although a really good start to this story, I really dislike cliffhangers. I understand that writers want to keep readers engaged in the story, but writers should also realize that if they do not have the next book in the series ready to go that they have already lost their readers attention.

Gripping
There is no playing around here. You are thrust directly into the action from the first sentence and it never stops.

Interesting and exciting
Calder had an augmentation in his head when he was in the military but he thought it didn’t work. Now someone sent him a jump drive and he loaded something unknown and scary into his brain and he went on the run. His partner Sierra was looking for him and then all heck broke loose. Evil companies, abusive boyfriends, deadly deals and a slow love with a cliff hanger in this interesting and exciting story.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Hard Sci-fi Done Right
"Hard Sci-fi" has been such a high-traffic lane for so long that it's developed some nasty potholes. For example, there's a special flavor of disappointment to stepping into a brand-new hidden realm of adventure only to realize that all its imaginary, cutting-edge technology from the future feels like something you've seen before. "Edge of Darkness" handily avoids this pitfall and others endemic to the subgenre, and it does so without wavering from the dead center line of the literary roadway it follows. It's familiar in all the right ways--it builds upon classic sci-fi fundamentals while remaining satisfyingly original and well-crafted. The characters feel organic, and to the extent that they inhabit archetypes, those archetypes always receive some unexpected, non-traditional treatment that keeps things fresh. There was no hesitation when it came time to pick up the next book in the series, and I'm happy to say that what I've read of it so far is excellent and of increasing subtlety. I'm as excited to follow Romano's authorial evolution as I am to follow Calder and Sierra's exploits.

Get it, because the next book will only be better! :D
I've been waiting for this book for some time, and when it came out I was happy to receive it as a gift from the author (I purchased the eBook from Amazon so I could read it on my tablet). As other have stated, the story moves at quick, and has great elements of a Science Fiction thriller, and Action Adventure. Some elements can be disturbing for some - Some character actions are frustrating (but, if you look at everyday life and people - well, we all do things that can be considered frustrating to others, right?) but the book ends with you wanting the next in the series NOW!And, that, is what makes for good writing/good story - if you want to stay in that world, follow these people into their next adventure.

Fast paced action from the first page!
Fast paced action from the first page! Edge of Darkness is a science fiction thriller with a romantic subplot. Calder McKenna is infected with programming designed to make use of the experimental augment inside his brain, launching a quick sequence of events that culminate in a bid to take down one of the largest biotech corporations in business. Throughout, Calder has to fight for his own sanity, against the company responsible for his current situation, and for the woman he loves.Filled with lots of cool weaponry, badassery and cinematic fight scenes. I also got a bit of a Strike Back vibe from the banter at times. ;) The action doesn't quit on the last page, either. I'm not normally a fan of cliffhanger endings, but no one is actually dangling over the edge here. More, we're being set up for the next adventure. What I'd like to see in the next installment: More Gage and Sierra coming to the rescue of one of the guys. :)
