The Strange Adventure of a Broke Mercenary (Light Novel) Vol. 1

The book begins with a surviving mercenary with nothing but his sword left after a battle destroyed his company. To keep from starving he join the worse adventuring party this side of the world. He also meets a priestess in the party with secrets of her own. In an unpresented disaster of an adventure they run into goblins as their opponents (for the entire book.) From that point there are a lot of twists.The story of the interaction between the Mercenary and the Priestess with hints of future romance. It feels like this dance of emotions will be an ongoing part of this book series and I look forward to it.

The story starts much like Goblin Slayer, but quickly goes into other directions and its main characters certainly are different. Still, it is a fairly typical fantasy short light novel of a skilled broke mercenary desperate for a job and ending up with a crappy adventuring party and having to deal with what at first just appears to be a goblin infestation. The one light in the darkness is that the priestess at least knows what she is doing even if she is hiding somethings, can be a bit manipulative and curious at times.The story is fast paced, the combat brutal and the characters interesting/entertaining. The world building felt fairly typical for the genre. I am not a fan of the kind of goblins depicted here (the ones that procreate with anything), unnecessary and feels more like something to be added to disturb then to make an interesting world. I am also feel the beginning could have been somewhat different just to get rid of the Goblin Slayer feel.All in all, I found it an entertaining short read. It was what I expected, nothing deep or new, but sometimes that is exactly what I want to read.

Loved the 2 main characters, very human (lol) characteristics and good overall story for this adventure. Buying the next one now.

Wasn't really expecting much from this, to be honest.But, I found that the story, writing and dialogue were all very good. The author made you like who you were supposed to like and dislike the right characters too. Sounds kinda "duh", but you'd be surprised at how many authors fail at this.There was one minor logic problem at the beginning that made me think "WTF?, but it was minor. Other than that, I'm looking forward to the second volume.

A great book and really well written. The book is action packed from the start, with good character development, fun scenes and a story really interesting. This book will follow an adventurer party at the style of any good TRPG. The main characters are really good and well describe through the book. A fun and easy read.

this light novel had a lot of real building and character development and a lot of inner dialogue of the character about why he did this and why he did that there was a lot of information to get through. as The Story Goes it was pretty good my only complaint is so I don't like a whole lot of information dump for me that made the story drag but the parts for the reaction and interaction between the characters was very good.

I feel for the main MC. Lost his mercenary company and has seek new employment. Gets roped with a bad employer to boot and ends up strategically suckered in the end. Our poor MC doesn't even know it! *sigh* Business as usual for the average Joe.I recommend the story and the POV at the end is hilarious

Short book with usual fantasy characters and a dungeon to explore. Characters are interesting if thinly detailed. A quick read which neither expects nor provides much thinking from the reader.

It was really nice to read a fantasy light novel that isn’t about someone reincarnating in another world with cheat powers. Also nice to see characters who aren’t bland goody two shoes and have their own worries and motivations. I feel this story has a lot of potential. I’m really looking forward to the next volume.

I was concerned this might be another goblin slayer copy and paste. I didn’t mind goblin slayer but the characters were rather thin and I got bored a few books in.Thankfully that’s not the case here. There are a few similarities but there’s a refreshing twist and that’s how likeable the main characters are - they have much more depth than I expected - they also have great chemistry together. I really enjoyed this and will definitely be picking up the next book in the series!

Can't wait for the next one.

Seltsamer Erzählstil und eher unsympathische Protagonisten haben das Buch zu einem zähem Leseerlebniss gemacht. Mal sehen wie der nächste Teil sich macht, meine Erwartung ist jedoch nicht sehr groß.

This was amusing to read but whoever wrote this light novel basically cut and pasted beserk and goblin slayer .
