Not inexpensive but well worth it!
This thing is amazing. I have used it with all of my cameras but the performance with my 8+ pound medium format camera is what really makes it stand out. With the grip in the left-hand horizontal configuration (not joystick mode) it will hold my MF camera as steady as a rock in both landscape and (amazingly) in portrait mode where all 8+ pounds of camera are being held out over the tripod centerline. This thing grips like a vise but the amount of effort to unlock it doesn't take that strong of a grip. Really, an outstanding design. If you are on the fence, jump (buy it)!

I won't trust my heavy telephoto with this ball head
I bought a Manfrotto tripod about five or seven years ago with this ball head, and it worked well enough with relatively light lenses. However, I now have a heavy (and expensive) telephoto, and I just don't trust this ball head quick release mechanism with that lens. Sometimes you think you have the quick release in correctly, but it slips out while installing it. Not a big deal with a light lens, but it is a big deal with a five pound lens. I'm getting a new ball head to replace this one.

Had mine since Nov 5th 2012
I use it on any of my tripods (heavy weight Gitzo Reporter to Manfrotto BeFree) with Nikon D850 and others (D750 up) with lenses from 14 to 600mm - weight hanging in gusty winds for astro to wildlife photography! Is so quick to setup with left hand and level with bubble then shoot with right hand wearing gloves in 40 below. It's heavy, but worth it! I was born in 1945 and still pack it where ever I go.

No more downward creep with my heavy camera lenses
Holds my 300 mm telephoto lens firmly. No more downward creep. Fast and easy adjusting is way better than those ball things you have to loosen and retighten after every adjustment of the camera. It is a bit heavy, though.
