nice quality
Just received this item and my husband and I are quite happy with the size and quality of this item. Instead of a "wire" for cheese slicing this one has a "blade". Although the blade is a bit thin, it appears as though it is quite sturdy. The base is very sturdy. I immediately washed it and realized that if you close the blade down all the way you can wash the blade from the under side to limit the chances of cutting your self on the blade because the blade has a bit of a sharp edge. I believe tis cheese slicer may be able to be used for items other than just cheese.Down side to this item. When it arrived the package was undamaged but the hinge side of the blade was stuck. My husband had to bang and pull on it a bit to get it to line up properly to be able to use it.If this slicer where to have a safety latch to lock the blade in the closed position this would be an even better slicer.I would say the quality and value of this item would rank with "gift worthy"

Too thick
My cheese cutter with a wire cutter broke. I thought this would be a sturdy replacement. It's very sharp but doesn't cut cheese thin enough. It's awkward to use but it does work

Much sturdier than a wire cheese cutter.
I prefer a wire cutter for cheese. This cutter is a bit more difficult to use. It requires a bit more force because it uses a slightly thicker knife blade instead of just a wire. But the blade is sturdier than a wire. I like to have this in reserve for those times when the wire in my preferred cutter breaks and I don't have a spare wire handy. I gave it five stars because even though it is not my preference, it is a fine sturdy cheese cutter. You might even prefer it to a wire cutter.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED
THIS WAS A LITTLE FLIMMSIER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. DID NOT CUT MY BLOCK OF CHEESE VERY WELL.

I purchased this item as a gift for friends. So I can't say how they perform just yet. It appears to be quite stable but don't know about sharpness ets....

Loose and unstable
Very loose, it cuts cheese great but goes off center and cuts in an angle. I can't make cheese cubes how I want them

Disappointed
Wanted blade vs. wire for stable/consistent slices. Handle/blade moves side to side cutting shards and slivers instead of slices.
