Lola is Missing: A totally gripping crime thriller (Detective Rachel Prince Book 1)

Police Procedural
Publicity blurb describes ‘Lola is Missing’ as a “totally gripping crime thriller”, and this is very much what it is with foul play suspected after a six years old girl goes missing. The case has gone cold as the mother is pointing the blame at the husband and he has he distanced himself. With a background of the Metropolitan Police Serious Organised Crime and Interpol DI Rachel Prince and DS Matt Brickall are tasked with assisting the Surrey Police in pursuing the case, and ‘Lola is Missing’ takes the form of a police procedural. There are numerous leads stemming from Lola’s family, and there are numerous individuals and agencies involved yet author Alison James skilfully presents their complicated relationships and investigations as clearly written and well structured, and she plausibly introduces further abduction and killing. With twists, turns and red-herrings ‘Lola is Missing’ seems set to be a 5-star read, but it falls short as it becomes a largely character driven with too much emphasis on the lifestyles and personal issues of Rachel and Matt along with their families, friends, colleagues etc.Yes – I found narrative to be gripping and compelling, but for me it is too long and it too obviously sets the scene for a future series.

This is a new author for me but it won't be the last book of hers that I read. Totally gripping with believable characters. Full of twists and turns. Would highly recommend you read this
