I bought this as a wedding present for my sister who really wanted this particular knife for the half bolster, the white handle, and the classic shape. It is well made without being overly heavy. I checked out the knife and it is sharp and defect free. Side by side with my professionally sharpened $15 Cuisinart chef's knife, I was hard pressed to see a difference beyond the handle colour and brand name. Fit and finish as well as sharpness were comparable. Hopefully the steel and forging technique is of a higher quality for longer edge retention (which I didn't test for obvious reasons). I have no doubt that this German made knife will provide a lifetime of use if properly maintained and it undoubtedly makes a nicer gift than a much cheaper Chinese made knife. Weird thing, the day after I bought this knife, the price jumped up and it's now more than twice what I paid.

Ich kann leider nur 4 Sterne vergeben, das Messer ist sehr handlich und scharf, aber die Einzelverpackung hätte ich bei einem Messer in der Preisklasse nicht so mangelhaft erwartet. Ohne Klingenschoner oder Karton, einfach in Plastik und Papier!!!!

Perfect size. Ergonomic. Don’t look for 10 inch knife. It’s overkill for home purposes. Eight inch is enough. Wüsthof is reliable company with reliable and durable products. Suitable for European cuisine and European cooking habits. Maybe not for sushi and japanese cuisine but ask yourself how many times you prepare such a meal?
