Q: what is the actual size of the box minus the shoe holder on top?

The inside dimensions are 5 1/2" high x 11 7/8" long x 5 11/16 wide. The outside of the box, including the feet, but excluding the footrest on top is 6 3/8" high. The lid opens on a slope (it's not the same height all the way around), which makes it hard to use all the volume, unless you can stack things a bit. It's a little small if you have a lot of shoe goodies, but it is beautifully made, and an amazing deal for the price. I just store some of my less-used accessories in another box.

Yes it holds the shoes in place while you work on them.

It includes the foot rest. Its a beautiful box.

Q: Where is this box made?

China. But a very good quality. I love the finish and can keep all my polishes, brushes and aux stuff. Strongly recommended.
