My heart is still pounding!
Split Second was an excellent read, maybe a bit too graphic for some, but thoroughly entertaining. Another great job, Alex Kava!

A good one
Strong and believable female characters. The male characters are a bit stereotypical, but since this is just Alex Kava's second book, I'm hoping she corrected that in future books. A truly twisted villain. A page turner as the end draws close. Maybe I've read too many of this genre, but the twist at the end was predictable. Worth the read.

What is better than outstanding?
Gripping, fast-paced and full of curves. FBI Special Agent Maggie O'Dell has a serial killer after her -- not to kill her, but to break her by killing people she knows. In this second book in the Maggie O'Dell series, Alex Kava ratchets up the scary and the psychological torment as Maggie tries not to unravel while she hunts the killer. I had to put the book down and walk away several times before finishing it. Lots of tension. Excellent character description, excellent plot, excellent dialogue, just excellent everywhere. Added to an already great read is the merest hint of romance -- in the way of caring and compassion and patience and understanding by a man not put off by Maggie's tough life. This does not get in the way of the superlative action story. It simply makes it so human.

Love Maggie O'dell
What an amazing character. Her fears, anger, her passion and commitment, disregarding her own safety. I shed a few tears, let me tell you! I have enjoyed Alex Kava's books for years and can't wait for her next story. Thank you Alex!

almost too scary!
I can’t imagine how this nice looking woman comes up with one of the scariest books I’ve ever read! Once you start one of her books, you just can’t stop! Just as I finished this book I heard sirens outside and it took me a minute to realize that I was in my own place and safe. For a moment, I wasn’t sure where I was. I’m afraid I was right there with her in that frightening situation! If you like a good scary mystery, this is for you.

Another good read, going for series 3
Maggie is a detective who sometimes over steps her boundaries , and I have to remember this is a novel, like her new partner Tully, and new love interest, lots of action, remember to start at series one, I started with 5 to see if I like her writing and wish I started with the beginning TMI enjoy

great read
Mystery thriller suspense. A great read, serial killer versus good. I had to stay up to enjoy it. Great writer.

Maggie O'Dell is developing as an interesting, albeit complex, character
I would strongly recommend that one first reads the prequel (Before Evil published in 2017) before starting the series as it explains a lot of questions raised when reading the first book in the series (A Perfect Evil) and this one. The stories are fast moving and can be read separately but I would recommend reading in sequence.

Great read!
This is the second book in the Maggie O'Dell series and you have to read the first one to understand some of the references. Alex Kava really captures what it must be like for a woman who has been attacked by a serial killer who knows he has escaped from prison and is coming after her again. The characters are well drawn and the sense of fear is all pervading. Alex Kava has joined my list of crime writers to look out for.

I really enjoyed it, again
I actually read this twice as I ran out of books! I really enjoyed it, again! And I have now gone on to read Books 1 and 3 and lining up now for 4! I like the pace and the stories. The formula is similar but there are enough differences to keep things fresh. I am a convert to this series/author. YMMV
