Useful and informative but could’ve used more editing and detail
There’s not much out there for those who want to visit American Samoa, so thanks, Melinda, for putting this book together. There is a lot of useful and helpful information: the hidden gems and the suggested itineraries as well as history and culture. However, the table of contents is not particularly useful because the book has no page numbers. Although the photos are clear and enticing, the maps are blurry and the numbers on them have no corresponding numbers in the text. Finally, the directions to some of the sites are not detailed enough to direct you to the destinations. If no one is around to ask, you end up going back and forth until you find them. Normally, these shortcomings might warrant three stars, but Melinda obviously put her heart into the book. If you can wait for her improved version, do so. If not, buy this book before you go or even if you’re just thinking about going to American Samoa.

The only guide book to American Samoa you will ever need
Get this if you're interested in or visiting American Samoa. A few corrections with names need to be made, but it's overall good.I also highly recommend the author's YouTube channel (AmSamFam) bc it helps bring the book alive. You can watch the author and her family actually living and enjoying what she writes about in this book. What I like:* Itinerary suggestions* Advice regarding children (great info for families)* Safety tips* Everything a tourist needs to know (accommodations, transportation, phone and internet services, what to do in case of emergency, etc.)* The basics of the fa'aSamoa and what's acceptable conduct.* Took care to note that there's more than one version of a legend* A respectful and thoughtful tone throughout the book. No condescension.* The writing isn't dull. It's not written like a dry reference book or a boring manual of facts.* Although not a native to American Samoa, the author writes as if one. The book doesn't read like the perspective of an outsider or tourist like other travel guides. Instead, it reads like it's from the perspective of a Samoan who loves her homeland. If I hadn't known who the author was, I would've assumed it was written by a native Samoan.Malo lava AmSamFam

Nice recent compilation of American Samoa.
Thank you for your nice work that captured pictures and facts of American Samoa. Very proud to have an American family enjoy the farthest US territory. Most of us American Samoans watch your videos and purchased copies of this book to enjoy our little rock in the middle of the South Pacific ocean. Malo lava!
