Great story...
I throughly enjoyed this new offering by Amanda Scott, especially because she has returned to the Borders of Scotland. The setting and historical detail was so impeccably done the reader knows they are in the period and location. Meg and Wat are great compliments of each other. Wat appears a bit of hapless rogue ( what Border hero isn't) and Meg has self esteem issues. But each does quite a bit of growing from within and as well as with each other. The story is enriched with the introduction of the secondary characters who compliment the conflicts within the story. Clearly we will revisit these characters over the next two books in the trilogy. The delightful scamp Sym will surely get his own story, yes?The only draw back was the story was a bit light on sexual tension. She opened an issue with the heroine's intimate relationship with the hero that never seemed to be resolved, but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the story. The political intrigue played a strong role in the plot and I think at times this impeded the reader from seeing a stronger, well developed love match between Wat and Meg, but these are characters readers can't help but fall in love with. The story is so well crafted the reader who loves a fast paced ending is going to love this book. For readers who love Scottish romances and are tired of all those set in the Highlands this one should be at the top of your "to be read" pile. Amanda Scott never disappoints!!!

Good Book
Good once again she has created an interesting story from actual historical facts. I never knew much about the Scottish until reading her books.

Enjoyed it.
The writing was good and I enjoyed the story. Would recommend this book to a friend. All the lose ends are wrapped up by the finish of the book.

Great reading, I'm Scotch and even though fiction tells me a little about the country and very excellent writer
I found another amazing writing and since I'm of Scotch Heritiage and she writes about Scotland and brings into her stories actual evens with her fiction I've been really pleased with every book I've ready so far, this is a really nice adventure

The Scots are always interesting
I really like the stories by this author for the period. The history is always as interesting as the story lines

Boring
She use to be a very interesting writer with good plots and story topics. This was both boring and seemed to go no where.

Fascinating history and a satisfying romance.
This is quite an exciting story, with real history behind it. Wat and Meg were an unlikely couple, but after much conflict they managed a happy ending. The story actually gets more suspenseful as it moves along, and I enjoyed it thoroughly! I had to look up pictures of some of the locations in the book. Fascinating! The conflict between a married couple in about 1390 AD Scotland was very interesting, too!

I'm not sure...
If it really was a 4 star book but I could not come up with why it wasn't. It had likeable characters and those you hate. I think though at times it was slow. The historical stuff might have gotten in the way. I know you need some of that but it needs a purpose. I'm going to read more in this series because my curiosity was peaked.
