Easy to use and a great grlo

Excellent book for GCSE Spanish.

I received a complimentary copy of both Volume 1 (Listening, Speaking) and Volume 2 (Reading, Writing, Translation) to review as a Spanish teacher / former Head of Spanish. With these publications RSL Educational very capably meets its stated objective of providing realistic and challenging practice papers to help students prepare for the new (9-1) (I)GCSE papers. As well as providing additional high quality practice material for teachers and for tutors, the clear layout of mark-schemes, worked examples and top tips would together enable students to access these materials on their own for independent exam preparation. I am impressed by the authenticity of these materials and the clear manner in which students are guided towards achieving the best possible marks.

There are lots of Spanish primers and revision guides on the market, but what immediately struck me about the RSL materials was how thoughtfully, lovingly and painstakingly they have been assembled. They’re clearly underpinned by a genuine desire to bring the best out of young people: to help them learn and to help them to demonstrate their learning in their exams. I was particularly impressed with the way that practice questions are woven together with tips on how to approach them; this is a simple but ingenious way of making exam practice a truly productive learning experience, pushing pupils to reflect on exam technique while they attempt exam questions and not just after the fact. This pack simulates the challenges of a GCSE Spanish paper, whilst offering the support to complete it. The advice is plentiful, but precise, concise and never overwhelming. The tone is friendly and upbeat. This is an excellent resource. I have no hesitation recommending it to teachers, parents and pupils. (I’m a linguist and education researcher and was sent a free review copy of this pack. I don’t know the RSL team personally. These are my honest and unbiased views.)

With regards to the Listening papers, the audio files are easy to access from their website and the papers themselves are enjoyable to go through. As with all other RSL study materials, the real bonus comes from the marking scheme which is far superior to any other we have tried. Clear explanations, guidance to increase your points and tips to help you feel confident when exam time comes. There are 4 different papers on varying subjects, so your vocabulary will be improving all the time.The Speaking section has downloadable recordings to demonstrate how you could address the questions provided, and there is a grid mark scheme to determine how well your answers did.I was given a complimentary copy of this guide for an honest review. My favourite part is the Steps to a Higher Grade which is full of helpful tips to really succeed at the exam which is 12 pages long and will really help with confidence.

What we(my daughter and I) love most about this is the extra guidance given for the mark scheme. It gives you clear instructions on the questions and why they are done in the way they are given as well as in depth explanations of the answers, while other books we have used just provides the answers. It felt like I had a tutor rather than just a paper.I love RSL books and have the GCSE Maths and English comprehension which have been part of moving my daughter from a lower set to set 1 in both subjects within the space of a year.This particular one was given to me to review. I will update my reveiw once we have gone through it fully.
