R Murphy New Haven Oyster Knife Shucker (Green Handle)

great little shucker.

Took this out to Tomales Bay California for an oyster feast. I've never shucked this easy in my life. Great knife and a joy to use! Easy to clean with the green handle. The New Haven blade gets right in the hinge on west coast oysters and easily opens them. Get this and impress your friends but its not a miracle. You still need a little technique to go with it.

I have used my Dexter knife for several years, and on larger oysters the really strong and stiff blade is great. But my favorite oysters are more diminutive ones from the Pacific Northwest, and I have not been very efficient breaking into these. After seeing THIS knife recommended by America's Test Kitchen, I decided to take a leap of (informed) faith, and get it. Well, I am having a MUCH easier time shucking my little babies now! Highly recommended.

I have been shucking raw oysters for a long time but never with this bent tip design. I truly love the craftsmanship and design. The bent tip is the way to go. Once you insert the tip of the knife all you have to do is apply downward pressure and that alone many times will open the shell. If it not a slight push and twist gets it every time. This knife reduces effort and fatigue for a more pleasurable oyster eating experience.

murphy is the best in oyster knives....there are lots of others in the price range alot are good....they are not the best murphy is the best......
