Good story!
I enjoyed this book. The world D.S. Created is interesting and well thought out. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, the dangers and challenges. I’m looking forward to book 2.

Good book but....
I enjoyed this story, read it in a single day just to find out that the other two books in the series were not included in kindle unlimited. All I can figure is that the author tried to make the first book so good and leave it with such a cliff hanger that I would pay for the next two books just to satisfy my curiosity about what happens in the story. Not only will I not be paying for the next two but I'll never read anything else that he wrote.

Addicting
I started this series not expecting much as I haven’t heard about it before. As I dove into this new world DS Murphy created I realized the plot, the characters, the development- was right up there with the Hunger Games! Can’t wait to start the next book in this series. And fingers crossed it becomes a motion picture adaptation someday!

The Writing is Everything
I am over TikTok wannabe authors. DS Murphy is a refreshing author who has the power of words. The world building, descriptions, plot twists, and word usage are just spot on. I only wish his books were longer. I read this in about 8 hours. It’s a slow burn but worth it.

Hunger Games meets Divergent with a side serving of Dracula and Beverly Hills 90210...
An easy read - a post apocalyptic tale very reminiscent of The Hunger Games, but with vampires.I enjoyed the ride, but there are several typos which should be easy for the author to quickly amend.I enjoyed it enough to read the next book in the series. But I do agree with one reviewer here who has highlighted the outdated references to the treatment of women. If you're writing for teens & YA, I do think it is important to try and move past "sex slaves" and using virginity as a form of currency.

Good story
Good story with a serious cliffhanger. Had to download the second book in the trilogy to find out what happens next! A few grammatical errors and spelling bleeps but not enough to rate it any lower than a four star

Wonderful!!! adventurous!!!
I couldn't put this book down until the end! The characters are endearing and loveable. The plot is full of twists and turns. I recommend this book to everyone who loves the paranormal, mystery, romance, and adventure.

Moves Quickly
I liked this book. The story moves quickly and for the most part is free of over descriptions that tend to slow the story. The main character is likable. She does make some impulsive decisions that make you question her sense of self preservation, but her loyalty to those she loves is endearing. The male character is well written. He is conflicted and has made sacrifices, to the detriment of himself, based on convictions he has developed from hard experiences. The book leaves you just hoping they can figure each other out. It is hard for me to like the third member of the love triangle though, his recklessness makes me anxious as I read any scene in which he participates. I have enjoyed all of DS Murphy books. There are a few curse words, violence (it is a vampire book) and some steamy kissing.

A mix of genres with a new take on vampires
Taste of Vampire is book 1 in the Kingdom of Blood and Ash series.Emily is 17 years-old now, which means this year she may be chosen by an elite and have the chance to go to the Citadel. When she's chosen by the Prince she's quite shocked but also happy as she had the chance to get more of the elixir to help her mother. But once she's at the citadel, she gets to learn that all is not as it seems and the Kingdom was lied to by the immortal elites...I quite liked this story as it was a different take on vampires. However, I didn't like her weird relationship with Trevor. There were also loads of spelling and grammatical errors as well as missing words, which I would think be quite easy to correct. If you enjoyed these books, you will enjoy Taste of Vampire: Twilight, The Selection, The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Red Queen.

Mixed bag.
The first half of the book was really enjoyable. Emily was a decent character, but her supporting cast dropped the ball. Emily and Damien had no chemistry as a couple, neither did Emily and Trevor. Damien in general was too emo for my liking, he's not a character I'd want to follow beyond the first book. Trevor seemed like a child pretending to be an adult. The ending with Emily's family was really dumbed down to nothing, which didn't feel right since it was a major plot point in the second half of the book. I would have liked more of the dystopian part of the title and less of the citadel.

4.25 stars
There were a few plot holes here and there, but i felt overall it was a good book. Emily's demenor changed a couple of times - she went from fierce to shy and princessy to fierce again- but the overall storyline was great. It definitely felt like it was inspired by from blood and ash. I will be continuing on with the series.
