I Read it 4 Times Before I Enjoyed it Fully
Gave Thorpe has a mixed reception in the Warhammer community but overall, I tend to enjoy his works for their atmospheric and fluff-based nature. Yes, I know Luthor becomes a traitor, give me the fluff for it, not some random technical data on a random fight on a backwater planet against countless orks. If you want a pure battle-based book there's novels like Rynn's World [which is also very good for different reasons]. If you want a look into Calliban before the Lion/Emperor and the weird techno-feudal honor culture and quasi-parables/prophecies of a man both more mad/wise than any other character around him, read this book.

An excellent view into the workings of the Arch-Heretic’s mind
Luther is always seen from a vilifying or glorifying perspective, which has previously done little to explore who HE is, instead of being the boogeyman in the corner. This book goes in depth into his motivations, and shows the gray areas in his story, making you question long held beliefs or perceptions on characters like the Lion or cultural things like Caliban’s knight orders. You also get to see what happens after the Lion disappears and the Unforgiven are founded as we know them.

Not as good as I had hoped
I'm definitely Team Luther in the conflict with the Lion (what a jerk). Problem with this is that Luther's stories didn't grab me as much as I had hoped. he's definitely the Cassandra of the WH universe, though. Also not sure what is "woke" about this, lol.

ITS GOOD
Very good if you want insight to a nuanced character in 40K. Out of time and misplaced character. Cant wait for more of this character

Like most new 30k/40k books.....
Boring with a touch of woke. You can skip most of it, read the last two chapters and still understand what's going on. Thorpe started my love of the DA. He has fallen.
