Honest review
I used this marching band lyre for all four years of high school, and it worked great during that time. It held my music well and was especially useful during rehearsals and while playing in the stands. After I graduated, I even passed it down to another student, so it definitely got a lot of use. One thing to watch out for is how tight you attach the strap. If itโs not tight it can feel a little flimsy on the uniform, so it takes a bit of adjusting to get it right. For marching shows, I eventually stopped using it because we had to throw our lyres off to the side of the field before actually taking the field to march the show. After doing that so many timesโespecially in wet grassโit started to wear down. The metal piece that holds the music eventually rusted and broke after years of being thrown down and used in rough conditions. Overall, it worked well for what I needed and lasted through four years of band, which I think is pretty good considering how much use it got.

My daughter was in a Memorial Day parade playing flute and this Lyre was perfect!! It adjusts easily to fit any size arm and was light weight! Great item.

Could be perfect for a flute but is not perfect for a euphonium
This lyre/folio unit was purchased for a special application. My euphonium's lyre receiver was damaged by a previous owner, so I was trying this lyre-alternative. The unit attaches easily and securely to your left arm near the elbow with comfortably adjustable commonly-available elastic (included). I cannot say whether this position works well for a flutist or not; it works only marginally for euphoniumist. The left arm position for an upright, top-action, compensating euphonium is too low and off to the left to make this an ideal solution; you lose your forward- and right-vision for marching alignment while playing. The hard plastic folio backing rotates to hold the music perpendicular to your vision, and that rotation can be locked quite securely by tightening the wingnut. The unit includes five two-sided folio pages; additional pages are readily available and can be added to the two plastic ring easily. One of the nicest features of this unit is a metal clip that holds both the front and back folio pages to the hard plastic backing. Between numbers, you can move to the next piece easily and secure all the folio pages. The pressure of this clip also ensures that no music sheets will slip out the sides of the folio pages! What would make this lyre perfect for me would be if the backing had an extension piece to raise the folio higher up from my arm.

Just what I needed
So my daughter tells me at the last minute she needs a Lyre for high school band. Instead of trekking our in the 107 heat I decided to go to trusty Amazon. The price was good and it showed up very quick. As far as the product itself, I was worried when it showed up because it seemed like it would be too large for her tiny arm. However, it works perfectly! The strap is adjustable and will work for anyone. Not sure what the local music store charges for this but it couldn't be any better then the $11.99 Amazon charged. There is already a very detailed review about different types of Lyres but I just wanted to add my 2 cents and agree with that review. If your kid needs one of these for marching band, this is the way to go.
