Q: How do you mark the back side of the journal page and what does hb1 hb2 hb3 mean? sorry i am new to bee keeping

I believe the HB1, HB2, HB3, stands for multiple bee hives. So if you are recording information for your 1st hive, you'd enter that under HB1 and so on. But I do not know how to mark the back side of the journal.

One, I'm still using it from last season

Q: Can you just use a regular pen or pencil to record the data?

Regular pencils work well -pens must be tried as some don't write well

Q: Is this journal good for keeping track of multiple hives, or only one? I would like to purchase for my father, who has 3 hives.

If he has 3 hives one book can document the status of all three in one book. Just right the unique hive identification number at the top of each page.
