The best summary of modern Israel in print!
Martin Gilbert is my favorite historian. This is a great resource for anyone who would like to have a history of Israel. I would recommend this resource for practically any age group. Its full array of illustrations and pictures makes it appealing to younger readers as well.

Gilbert's Triumph
This is a magnificent book, one to treasure. Gilbert tells the story of Israel from the first settlers up to the present day. Each chapter is devoted to one segment of history and the photographs and illustrations interspersed through the text are really interesting. The content is succinct and factual, so probably not suitable for anyone wanting a more in-depth account, but he covers all the major facets of Israel's history. One of the outstanding features of the book are the little pockets which contain copies of original documents. I found the letter sent to his family by a young soldier serving at the war front especially poignant, more so because he was killed shortly thereafter. Moshe Dayan's personal letter of condolence to his parents is likewise very moving and illustrates the huge sacrifices Jewish Israelis have had to make.I loved this beautifully packaged and presented book and thoroughly recommend it. Martin Gilbert never disappoints.

Nice but information is scarce....
Rather than a history book, this is a very nice picture album with some short summary of Israel's most important events.Whilst the illustrations and the facsimiles are great and very interesting, the information provided in the book is scarce and anyone looking into reading about Israel's history should rather get Gilbert's "Israel, a history", which is great. And $23 for this is a rip off. It deserves 3 stars because it makes you think that it's full of information but it's really not. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the good design and very nicely selected photographs.

The Story of Israel
This is a book the likes of which I have never seen before. There are facsimile documents embedded in pockets on the pages which show the history of how Israel came to be. Although not being Jewish, I highly recommend this book for everyone interested in this subject, especially in today's situation.

Sehr gutes Geschichtsbuch über die Entstehung des neuen Staates Israel
Sehr gute Geschichte über die Entstehung des modernen Staates Israel mit vielen Dokumenten als Faksimiles. Super. Leider nur in englischer Sprache. Hier traut sich sicher kein deutschsprachiger Verlag heran.

Excellent!!
Very well put together book! Sir Martin Gilbert is an excellent historian, and an excellent writer. This book highlights events surrounding the formation of the State of Israel, and the early Zionist movement, and Britain's relationship (when it was good, and then while it was rocky) around the the First & Second World Wars. The colour, and writing, and little replica pieces are very cool. Highly recommend this concise history/ documentary style book!

Content
it has a lot of interesting pics but the writing is not enough, I mean it's more of a catalogue than a book!
