I bought 2 of these units: 1 for my 2 kids, 1 for myself. The noise made by the units is a continuous steady rather sharp noise whose level is equivalent to the average fan of a desktop computer (40dB?). My 2 young kids who are of easy sleeping type said the unit is quiet and the sound level does not prevent them from falling asleep at all, and once slept they don't hear the noise at all. My wife who is of medium sleeping type could not sleep with this unit in her room (due to noise level). For myself who am of the hard sleeping type, there is no way I can sleep with the unit at 6 feet away from my ears, the noise level prevents me from even falling asleep. I decided to put the unit at 12 feet away from my ears, so basically in the hallway, with 75% mist output only. At this distance, with the door of my room open, I can barely hear the noise and can easily sleep. At 100% output, the noise level would be too high and the unit would have to work too hard.I had tried several other types of humidifiers (cold, cool, warm, hot, ultrasonic). They all made noise that prevented me from sleeping, but this ultrasonic, although noisy for me, is still the quietest of all, and for this reason I will give a 4. I only know one type of humidifier that would make less noise is the no-cost no-electricity metal cans filled with water and let sit on an electric baseboard heater.

First time, I got a defective unit that the "turn on/off" light does not work at all, and after a few hours of use, it begins to make unexpected noise which sounds like the engine does not rotate properly. So, I request the replacement. The Amazon has nice customer service, they sent me another one by 1 day shipping, and I got it a couple of days ago, and I used it for an entire day. This replacement is not defective that everything works as expected, also, after several hours of use, it still does not have any unexpected noise.This humidifier is very cute, and the replacement is so far so good. Although, I got defective unit first time, I would like to give 5 stars for the review of this item because of Amazon's nice customer service and the item works fine so far. I might update the review after longer time use of this item.

This thing is awesome. My 3 year old son used to drink a full cup of water during the night, as it was so dry. Caused him to wet the bed a few times. Now, his water cup is full in the morning, and no more wet nights :)

Great humidifier for our jungle themed Nursery.

Nice and quiet, love how adjustable it is and the instructions on how to keep it clean make me feel confident that there won't be a built up of dirt in the unit.
