Sounds great! Album title is aligned properly
This album sounds great! and if youre wondering...the print is actually aligned properly on the bottom of the jacket, unlike what is shown on the listing...how black metal is that...they list the item with misaligned print...so rad!

Black Metal Noob
I was 18 when this album was released in 1992, and I vaguely remembered some of the controversy surrounding the church burnings in Norway during that time. I was not listening Black Metal at that time, but was a fan of metal being produced over here in the States. Move along 20 years and I found a documentary, Until the Light Takes Us. I was terribly intrigued with some of the persons presented in that doc along with the principle behind the music, even if I had no particular taste for the music itself. However, I liked the track "In The Shadow of The Horns" immediately, and so here we are. I did check out some music still being produced by another artist associated with this genre, but did not find it at all to my taste. Perhaps his early 90s era stuff is 'better'. Seeing as how "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" is touted as one of the best albums ever in this genre, along with having already heard something I liked on the album, I decided to buy it. It is hard to rate based on a deep knowledge of old school Black Metal, but I do like this album so it gets 4 stars. I will say that I think you have to be a metal head in my age bracket to 'get it'.

A perfect album.
This album is the quintessential true Norwegian black metal album. Forget Mayhem. Forget Dimmu Borgir. Forget even burzum. If you are new to the genre and want to know exactly what black metal should be look no further than A Blaze In The Northern Sky. From the opening track beginning with a satanic chant and proceeding to blow you away with guitar riffs so fast they sound like an orchestra of chainsaws. To the slower more handbanging riffs found on A Pagan Winter, this album never relents. And never dissapoints. 100/100 is the only fair rating for this album. A must have.

Its like a horror movie but the characters are real and ...
Hands down one of the defining albums in black metals history. The first album to have a band members corpse painted face in the cover, it stands as one of the darkest, grittiest and bare-boned hardest albums of all time. Its like a horror movie but the characters are real and telling their horrific tale of paganism, destruction and darkness that they encompass. One cannot leave this album without a sense of the depth of ones own dark side. These guys ARE the Blaze in the Northern Sky, take us with you.

Blazing!
A great album! - some say it is not wholly black metal and has Death metal influence, if that is the case I say good! - Whilst it may not be my favourite album of Darkthrone's Unholy Trinity i deffinately respect this album immensely for its originality. The Guitars have always been my favourite part of Darkthrone and this album showcases some of their better riffs and lead breaks and although simple really have great effect. The drumming is also very cool and they use a thunderous sound that I am very envious of and would love to know how they acheive it.Buy this album if you are interested in the slightest in black metal and I am sure it will convert you! one thing to note may be that the sound quality may sound poor upon first listen but like me you will grow to love this effect and find that given chance will really add to the atmosphere of your listening experiance.
