City of Time and Magic: Book Four in the Found Things Series

Good ending!
Xanthe goes back to Victorian London to retrieve Liam who was kidnapped and had to be left behind when Xanthe returned from her last trip. The person who kidnapped him was what surprised her the most - her mentor Mistress Flynt. Mistress Flynt was also a Spinner and she is in need of Xanthe's help. Apparently there are good spinners and bad spinners. The bad spinners become jaded by the power of what they can do and quite a few of them are using their abilities to pad their coffers without a care to what their greed can do to the time continuum. There is an offshoot group of spinners called time steppers and apparently they along with a select few spinners purpose in life is to oversee these spinners as well as right wrongs when they can.Xanthe takes back Harley with her this time to aid her in rescuing Liam but to protect her and the Spinners Book. The book is speaking more now to Xanthe and both she and Harley find themselves propelled in to the lives of one of the individuals whose history is recorded in the "Book" and whose past is linked with Mistress Flynt. Erasmus is now a Time Stepper and along with his wife, Elizabeth (who is a Hedge Witch! Yes, A witch though why that should be any more surprising than time travel - is where I found myself also. Suprised!!) A doctor/healer, Elizabeth and their son, Nipper, is also connected to this particular mission.I loved this book because of the time travel genre but I also became quite invested in the characters in this book. Xanthe's true mission (besides getting Liam back - who she finally admits the chemistry between them but also finds herself admitting that she is in love with him. Which, I was glad to see as she had kind of left this guy "dangeling", her Mom's word, not mine though I did wonder if she was going to blow her chances with him, thru 3 books!!) Anyway, this final book is where Xanthe discovers her true calling. Lots of action and more evidence that this "gift" she has - also can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. Which was really the subject matter of the first two books when she battled and proved victorious with a pretty nasty character - Fairfax!!I loved reading about all the difficulties one would find themselves in if we could just pop back 300 years. In this book, the Author finally addresses what problems one would find themselves in if a person could jump forward into history, as well. I found the ending a little depressing as I felt that Xanthe's life is just beginning and I wanted to read more stories but the Author did snip all the dangling threads and I suppose this was as good as place as another to end the series. Though, I won't be surprised if a Book 5 finds its way on to the "shelves" and truly hope that this is just the beginning of a long series. Ms. Brackston is quite good in turning out series like The Highlander" and you have to admire all the research that must be required to write something as challenging as a time traveling series!

The Found Things Series
I loved this series and will miss the characters that feel like friends. I decided to drag things out and read little bits every day to make it last longer. It was a delight to visit this world and I hope there are more journeys in the future.

GREAT LAST STORY
Just finished Book #4 of the series. Pleased at the ending in some instances but sad to know that these great stories have come to an end. Almost like saying goodbye to an old friend. Well time moves on and I'm sure there are other good books to read and hope that I don't compare them to harshly to these stories by Ms. Brackston

Better Than Book 3
This was a much better pace and more interesting story than book three was in my opinion. I am glad that there was finally some resolution.

Found Things
An absolutely wonderfully written read. Well developed characters and flowing stories. All four books are engaging and extremely difficult to put down! I sincerely hope there will be more adventures to explore!

One of her finest.
Paula Brackston is back to her best. I have all her books and whilst the previous one in this series wasn't one of my favourites, this one has more than made up for it. By now we know Xanthe, Liam, Flora, Harley and Mistress Flyte very well (and I still adore Harley) but now we have a crossover with Paula Brackston's earlier series as they encounter the wonderful Elizabeth. I absolutely loved this whole story and I hope for more.Okay, I wouldn't be me if I didn't have my usual grumble about American spellings and words cropping up in a quintessentially English book but I still cannot recommend this author highly enough. If this is the first time you have come across her writing, do yourself a favour and go back to read her earlier works. They will not disappoint.

Addicted to Spinning!
Having just finished the 4th book in the series I’m already longing for the next. I enjoy all of the characters, and feel a connection to them while reading, and I do miss them when I finish each book. I have read all of Paula Brackston and very much enjoy her writing, and of course her ability to keep me fully engaged. Highly recommend this, and all of her work.

Quite enjoyable
A further tale of Xanthe and her time travels, as she tries to right past wrongs and find her lover who is trapped in time. Not a bad read and nice to connect with one of the author’s previous heroines in this crossover novel.Yes, I enjoyed it and please forgive this niggle: I appreciate that this book is popular in the US, but could we have had a version here without US spellings? Especially since the author is British.

A gripping story
This book has got to be the best yet! Pulling threads from earlier books and being able to see characters from another character's point of view as done very cleverly. The story is as absorbing as ever and the ending leaves the potential for further books ( yes please Paula!). This is one of my favourite series ever.
