Very Detailed Coverage of Old and Present Day Historic Route 66
This is more of a "Coffee Table" book than a "Take Along" book especially if you are travelling Route 66 on a motorcycle. If you are driving a car and you have a 2nd person as a "navigator" who can help you find information as you go, this book would be ideal to have on the seat beside you.I traveled Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica last summer by motorcycle and discovered a number of places/things I wanted to see had either gone out of existence or burned down or the collection of artifacts had been sold or moved, etc., between the time my reference books had been published and the Summer of 2013. This book is current as of 2011. It does contain much information about the History of 66 which gives the reader a much better understanding of what happened on (and what happened to) the places and people associated with this historic highway. It also contains much information about present day 66. Since I will be travelling from East to West on 66 again during Summer 2014, I would have preferred the Encyclopedia to be laid out that way; starting with Illinois and ending in California.

Huge hit. Sent it to my European brother who loves it.
My brother from the Netherlands came to visit me in Denver and I took him on a Southwestern tour. Coming back from Grand Canyon West, going to Santa Fe on I-40 he wanted to stop for coffee so we stopped in Seligman in Arizona. He looks around and yelled, "We are on Route 66!". I looked at him puzzled and asked, "Yes, so?". He could hardly contain his excitement and said, "My friends are going to be so jealous, they have talked about coming to the US, rent motor cycles and travel Route 66 from Chicago to California. We stopped at all the Route 66 historic places, stayed in the "La Posada Hotel" in Windslow, AZ and after visiting Santa Fe (still on the list of historic towns along the route) made our way back up to Denver, my hometown. He could not stop talking about Route 66, so I ordered him the Route 66 Encyclopedia. Home now in the Netherlands, he shows anyone who wants to hold still for a moment and they all love it. He can show his friends where he was on the fold-out map and then show them details and pictures in the book. It has great detail and history.

Get More Kicks on Route 66
Very comprehensive encyclopedia of Route 66. We just finished our East to West trip 2 weeks ago. We had lots of maps and other guides but decided to also take this one since it is alphabetical. That ended up being really handy in looking up things by the city name. Address for various attractions are not usually given so you will need other sources. I got the hardback and I think it was worth the extra cost. I read all the reviews here before making the purchase and would urge Route 66 travelers to read them. It is hard to find AND to stay on Rte 66 in every state, except maybe Kansas. We used the Jerry McClanahan EZ 66 Guide every day. We used the set of Here It Is maps some, Visitors bureaus usually have good up to date info you can pick up on the road.to supplement your array of 66 info. We posted photos etc onto a FaceBook page that is still up should you care to go to Buzzards on Rte 66. Happy trails!

One of the best Route 66 books I've seen!
A great Route 66 reference book! Originally I checked this out at my local library but soon found that I had to own a copy. This book is chocked full of great little-known "Mother Road" information. Makes for a fun reference book to pick up and read a few pages at a time. Someday I hope to drive the route 66 from Chicago to LA -- and this book will be my trusty companion to help make sure I see many of the off-the-beaten path things to be seen along the way!

Great Book. Great Road
This is a great book with insight into Route 66 today and the history of this great road. If you are looking for a guide as you ride the road this isn't it. It isn't organized in travel sequence but in alphabetically. If you are looking for a book to enjoy and perhaps pick those sights that you want to be sure to make stops on you trip this is it.A great book about a great road. Todd and Buz would be proud

Complete coverage of Route 66 information past and current.
Some items/places are only listed as additional information under other places, etc Use to plan your trip ahead of time, or on your way as you reach specific places. Great information and photos for coffee table book to enjoy regularly.

What a wonderful book. As a kid I remember traveling on 66 and is now a part of my collection on Rout 66. Great references and covers so much more than I expected. Great pic, and is sectioned by city. This makes it so easy to use, whether your going the entire length of The rout or certain towns.

Great Read
This is great. Its top of hubbys bucket list and this book will keep him quiet for hours !! Its more about the history of the route rather than the route itself but packed full of historical anecdotes that most would find fascinating.

The Route of brilliance
This is one of the best books I have ever bought, and especially if you have any type of interest in the Mother road in America. It's got a brilliant insight into all connections with the road, and some excellent pictures of bygone buildings and places, and todays places. A fantastic book which I'd definitely recommend.

Great book but not easy to use as a novice
Excellent quality book. It was arranged alphabetically (literally A to Z) which means if you don't know route 66 to start with it makes it harder to use the book. Good detail though.
