A Very Rare Gem.....
A few times a year, I venture out on Amazon to see if any "new" Sufi poetry translations surface....usually, they are disappointing..my Iranian friend, has often told me, that most of the Mystic poetry defies translation...with the subtleties, word plays and layers of veils lost. Often, they feel flat or empty. So it was with much gratitude and surprise that I began to read selections from Winds of Grace...the author has the heart and clearly, the Grace, as well, to give us a taste of the sublime poetry of the Sufi Mystics. I have ordered all his books! Thank you!

Nothing new
These sayings have the same message: to find God you have to give up your self and worldly matters. The first two extracts are typical.67. Mohammad ebn-e Hanife:To one who has realised his true worth the world means very little.69. Be erased from yourself,Perfection is that and nothing else.Left there be nothing left of you,Union is that and nothing else.I find this the best saying in the book:276. A wise one said of asceticism:When one stops running after what he does not have and gains insight into what he has.Not surprisingly there are a number of poems from Rumi. In my view Rumi is the supreme Sufi poet. I'll stick to his poems.
