No fluff. Realistic view point on how we can be successful in life.
This book was written with a lot of thought and care. I really appreciate the duality within the book. It doesn't paint a fairy tale picture and make blanket statements "you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it" and I like that, because in some peoples case, life doesn't workout that way. It clearly serves as a guide to follow to make improvements in your life regardless of were you are. I would consider this book to be the realist viewpoint on how to be successful in your own way. This book is amazing and I would recommend to anyone struggling to find their way in life.

Good Connections
The author of this books does an excellent job of connecting various historical figures and works back to the themes he covers. I found many of the recommendations (although not novel) to be excellent reminders on how to live.

Recommended Reading
Too often I am leary of books that might fall under the "self-help" category as so many of the ones I have read felt more like the 40,000-foot view without any legs to the material. This book felt vastly different than what I was expecting and in a good way.I know of Everett primarily through Catalyst Athletics. As a weightlifter and coach, I have relied heavily on his programming, training videos, and website as an invaluable resource for what I do personally and professionally. Given that weightlifting is the only world in which I "know" Everett, I was expecting to see more parallels drawn from being tough to weightlifting. There were not nearly as many as I thought and in the end, I was thankful for that.Everett approached the subject of "being tough" from a different angle than expected, and rather than just talk about weightlifting and fitness in general, he breaks down being tough into character, capability, capacity, and commitment, defining each. This isn't some surface-level fluff book, but really a handy manual if you view it in that light, and one of the few books that I do not want to let someone else borrow as I feel it would be beneficial to read this once a year.Of great value to me, were the action items. I have often heard about the power of journaling but never knew where to start, and some of the journals with pre-scripted prompts never appealed to me, yet Everett's book did. It is a clear blueprint and I appreciate the straightforwardness with which he offers his thoughts. As a quick side note, Everett also makes mention of several other authors, some I have read and some I have not. I love when authors do this as it helps me continue to read and learn more, especially through material that helped shaped minds like Everett's when writing Tough.

This will upgrade your mindset
mostly known for his Olympic lifting books you wouldn't expect such an awesome book about mindset and being a valuable member of society. I love this book many great pieces of wisdom and better than most books written by Navy Seals about being unbeatable, unstoppable and blah blahA book that gives you actionable steps about improving most aspects of your life and really being tough

Great book.
This is a very good book. Maybe I have a short attention span, but my only complaint is the author sometimes use sentences that are so long they tend to lose the point rather than reinforce it. Ronald Reagan once said, to be effective, keep your sentences short and to the point. Compare these two sentences from the same paragraph in the book and see what you think. The first is specific and to the point. "Confidence is specific to the nature and degree of our competence and coupled inextricably with precise self-awareness." The next sentence is too long and contains to much: "It protects us from mistakenly exposing ourselves to risks beyond our ability to successfully manage, precludes hubris from leading us to certain destruction as it invariably does, and allows us to guard our weak points from exploitation and take maximal advantage of our strengths in order to accomplish what we intend." Don't avoid the book because of this because it is excellent.

BUY BOOK, NOT AUDIOBOOK
Information is fantastic. My review is based on the audiobook. SUCKS! The book is completely monotone and will put you to sleep. Guess you can use that as a mental exercise to endure it and finish.

Greg at his continual finest
I was very excited to read this book as I have been a huge fan of Greg's writing etc. for a long time. He is very well spoken and his objectives are always clear and succinct.I wanted to read this book as I am a huge fan of self improvement as well. This came out shortly after I read "Grit" by Angela Ducksworth and both have very similar points of focus. I have used this book, "Though", to help me find more detailed topics to go over with my therapist and as stepping stones for thoughts in between. If you are a self reflective person, or want to be, this book is for you. If you're not, you should still read it as you might discover some great parts of yourself.10/10 recommend this book

Practical and usable
This book has very usable material and is not just a philosophical presentation of toughness, but some practical skills that can be incorporated into anyone's daily routine if they so desire. I liked that the author presented toughness & capability as a human capacity that can be developed & is not just an innate characteristic of elite Navy Seals or other heroic souls. I return to this book often to check in on my own "toughness" & areas I can continue to improve.

High impact
I've read a lot of books in the genre, but Greg brings together themes in such a punchy and effective way that this stands out. Whether or not you are an athlete, I think you will find this book thought-provoking and practical. I have recommended to a few friends already, and used it to start discussions about our actions.
