Picture Window Books No More Pacifier, Duck

seems effective for a baby closing in on two
my son will be two in September (five weeks early though -for developmental reference) and does not sleep at all without a pacifier. like stressed out meltdowns inconsolable. Its been warping his pallet so we needed to cut out the "binkie" as we call it asap. Well when this book came in we read it about 12 times in two days my son loved it! He especially liked when we would make the quack noises when momma duck took the paci. On day two we decided to try no Binkie at bedtime and it worked! It wasn't magic he got upset and needed a lot of extra love (about an hour and twenty mins extra) but still he calmed down pretty quickly and managed to fall asleep while holding my hand. the next day at nap time was even easier and so on and so fourth. its now day four and he has been sleeping without his binkie this entire time. I do absolutely think this book helped him get ready for the transition. we read it every day multiple times a day and he has been doing wonderfully. I think he was mentally ready for this as well so just keep that in mind. overall very cute and helpful and we are now interested in more books by the author.

Cute story
This is a cute story. Very basic. When I read it to my 2.5 yr old I explain what’s going on a bit more than the wording provides- such as “oh mama duck is taking ducky’s binky away when he is colouring” but my son loves to say “only in bed sleepyhead” he likes to choose the book to read at night although we havent been successful at ditching the binky yet haha. That’s more our son than the books doing, we are people that we know it will happen when he is ready and won’t push it. Overall good book I would buy it again. The other books by these authors are great also we have quite a few of them!

Loved reading this to my daughter.
This was a great book! We read it for about two months leading up to getting rid of the pacifier. We talked about how Duck was sad, but then he was okay, then happy! We discovered the potty training book by the same author at our library! We have both books for our personal library now.

Our 18 month old has begun to understand weaning from the pacifier with this book
I was so doubtful at first. But I kept persisting and reading this book to her every night consistently for about 2 weeks now. And in the morning I tell her “Only in bed, sleepyhead! Can you put the pacifier back in bed?” And sure enough, earlier this week she smiled at me and slowly walked over to her crib and smiled again and put the pacifier back herself! I couldn’t believe it. She’s been doing it every morning with us ever since. Now the next step will be to not use it at all at nighttime, which the book does mention! So looking forward to that!
