I have an original tempest spinner that i want to use with retropie. will this work?

I assume it does. I don't have retropie. I replaced the spinner and trackball in my 12 in 1 anyway both made by ThunderStick. If you change both. You do not need the interferencretro pie. But this video says it works with retropie. Hopefully it works for you. https://youtu.be/S8Q7cOj8R9g

Can l plug in a keyboard into the USB port to access the arcade1up main menu to change difficulty on games?

No, this board is for hooking in the GRS Spinner into the existing Trackball on the 12 in 1. There are some videos on YOU TUBE how to solder into the PCB an the A1Up but I have not tried it I would be afraid to ruin my board.
