Knitted Bears: All Dressed Up! (Twenty to Make)

Great gift ideas, but her math and gauge are off.
First, let me say that the bears are adorable and the costumes are fantastic. These have become my favorite knitted gift. They are very fun and quick to knit up. Overall, this is is a great value for the money. HOWEVER...1.) They must teach some kind of strange math over in the UK. The instructions for the decrease rows don't make any sense. The stitch counts don't add up (how can you K3, K2 together K3 3x and end up with 7 stitches when you start out with 12 stitches? This happens a lot. You just have to figure out what you are trying to accomplish and make it work. 2.) The costumes are too big for the bears if you use the same size yarn and needle for both. I've had to switch to a smaller needle size to get a smaller gauge for the costume and over-stuff the bear a bit. 3.) the faces don't quite turn out the way hers do...the noses don't protrude unless you put something stiff inside, like a bit of paper or styrofoam. My bears turn out more ugly than cute, but I love them just the same.

Delightful
The directions for the basic bear are simple and straightforward. If you can cast on, knit in garter stitch, cast off, increase, decrease and stitch knitted pieces together, you can make a delightful 8- inch bear! The clothes are adorable. They require a bit more skill, but you can learn anything you need from a good beginner's knitting guide. This is a wonderful way to practice new techniques without using a lot of yarn. There are excellent photos of the finished products. I would recommend this book to bear-loving knitters of any skill level.

LOVE THIS BOOKLET
I have already made 4 of the bears in this book. It gives you a "basic" pattern for the bears that is soooooooo easy. The head is made in one piece (ears included) and the body and legs are made in 2 pieces (front and back). Very quick. And they are darling.

LOVE these bears!
My knitting group of 2nd to 4th graders can make these bears, and each one is different. The yarn decides the size, even when each bear follows the same pattern. The original bear is fairly small, a worsted weight bear is about 13 ins. Wonderful. cute, and satisfying!

NOT FOR BEGINNERS
20 Knitted BearsThis pattern is a mess. It became obvious to me as I worked it that, though the design was that of a talented and imaginative amateur, it had been published without the benefit of a professional editor.O.K. for an experienced knitter who can look at a pattern with a critical eye, but beginners would do better to start with patterns supplied from sellers of the big name wool brands.

Nice Little book
I have just recently taken up knitting and wanted to start simple. This is fairly simple but some on the pattern instructions are to me a little complicated and have had to ask my sister for help a few times. Bears are bigger than I thought they would be (approx. 8 inches). Over all I am enjoying making them but after two feel I am ready to go onto something else. Delivery was excellent but book was smaller than I thought it would be. If like me you are new to knitting or starting again after a long break just be aware that the book assumes a level on knitting that I did not have but thankfully we have you tube!

Just ok, better books out there.
This book is easy for a beginner but mine has a few faults - some bits of instructions are missing so you have to make it up.The little bears are quite cute made up, clothing is fiddly but ok on short needles. I think there are better books around. My copy of this was pre owned and not in very good condition as stated, it also stunk of cigarettes so I shall be getting rid of it as I hate the smell.
