Generous with his knowledge
The reason I am giving 5 stars is the generosity of the author in sharing trading system scripts and historical data. For the price paid its an absolute steal and a no-brainer. The book itself is interesting and useful with plenty of worthwhile and some novel tips, although it came across as slightly disorganised. My main criticisms would be that it glosses over 'fundamental analysis' - fine if that's not the authors thing but it would be nice to hear more about why, and secondly it seems to give the impression that you can trade anything, forex, coffee, shares etc, all of which may be a bit much for the average Joe public.

But even then why would you start with this book when there are hundreds better out there
The book is very elementary, it barely scratches the surface of everything, telling you how important central bank decisions are, for example. The problem is that even some of the very basic elementary stuff is not written in a very clear way. The trade ideas are tersely written, without much elaboration as to how robust they are, etc. All these make me wonder how much effort has been put into writing this book. If you admit that you don't know anything about financial markets and trading, then this book might be for you. But even then why would you start with this book when there are hundreds better out there?

Excellent Resource Great
Excellent ResourceGreat, practical guide that is an excellent addition to any trader's library. The trading systems presented provide a variety of alternatives and good ideas for further research. The author also generously provides the codes for the systems upon request. I didn't necessarily find the "Fundamentals" section to be particularly useful, but I probably wasn't the audience for that part of the book. I understand why it was included. All-in-all, though, a worthwhile read and resource.

Well worth the money, deserves 10 stars
Easy to read. The first book I have read that provides an easy to understand macro view right at the start. I would STRONGLY recommend this book to the investor that has started the learning process and is seriously considering trading frequently. The author is a master of explaining things in short and easy to understand paragraphs. Best money for the buck you can spend hands down given the number of books I have read on the subject.

Although it takes several reads to understand what the author explaining in detail, this is an excellent book for someone taking on the market with no skills. I wish I had this book when I first started.

It is not just about stocks
Great book. Easy to read and clear. It gives an overall view of many aspects of trading (fundamentals and technical aspects of stock and forex trading, money management, diversification, economy in general). It helps you to visualize the the global aspects involved in trading, and not just stock trading.I also appreciate the resources & bonus material that helps you tho develop your own trading system and continue your research.

What an absolute piece of junk. But let me ...
What an absolute piece of junk. But let me preface that with the fact I went first to his 20 trading system ideas section...He writes"Each test in chis chapter is run on historical data for stocks in the S&P500 index from 200 to 2010...." Each test is run on weekly data.....Each test is run on a portfolio of 10 positions....."He then gives a brief (insanely brief) description of each system and an equity curve with some stats (drawdown, compound annual return, etc...).its mind boggling how inept this is. What the heck is he doing? How are the portfolios constructed. What is the equity curve showing us? The average of all possible ten stock portfolios that could be formed over the last ten years? What are the stats and equity curve referring to. Its complete madness.

Interesting but I thought it covered too much in too little detail. The last part on 20 systems should have been explained in much greater detail. I found this part was what I needed to know but so sparse I didn't get much out of it.

Not much new, the systems have huge drawdowns,
Not much new, the systems have huge drawdowns, the systems are all very long term, and are'nt practical: more importantly, - where is the Amibroker code - the book mentions there the system code is present - which was the reason I bought the book ... but there hardly *ANY* AFL code ...?

Just a general overview.
I thought - after reading that the author is a professional in this area - that we DO see some of the insider tactics and strategies revealed. It is no secret that Wall Street and their computer algos are well aware of the classic " technical analysis " patterns, typical entries of traders etc. I had hoped for some acknowledgement of this fact by a pro, instead there is a lot of general info that can be found for free on the net. At best something for extreme beginners.
