Q: Can this be used to measure range of motion for backs?

This device measures the angle of two straight lines. The only range of motion that involves the back would be the angle of the back to your legs. In this case the pivot point would be the hips. in a sitting position align the junction of the device with the hips and the reference arm with the leg (probably held flat) and the back with the other arm. that would give you the angle of the leg to the back, sitting up straight would be 90 degrees. This device will not measure bends in the back.
