Will help you find your stuff (and a great value), but a couple flaws
I'd originally purchased these RF tags as a gift for my father. He's always losing his keys and wallet and I figured maybe his life would improve a bit if he had a reliable way to find them. I don't live with my father, so I never really got to hear how well they'd worked. So, I was pleasantly surprised when 2Go e-mailed me and asked me if I wanted a free set for myself to review. That's a disclaimer, by the way: though I'd purchased this product on my own beforehand, the set I'm reviewing was free from the manufacturer.First off, the items works as advertised. The box comes with four tags (receivers) and a single remote. Once you remove a few small plastic tags from the receivers to activate them, you're ready to go. Pressing one of the colored buttons on the remote makes the receiver of the corresponding color beep, loud and clear. A light on the receiver flashes as well, though in most circumstances you're going to be finding it by sound, not sight.Of course, I couldn't tell how useful these things really were until I'd tested their range. As it turns out, the range is a little inconsistent. One of the tags (the purple one) covered an amazing distance--something like 30-35 feet. Anything beyond that and you'd have a hard time hearing the beeps anyway. The other tags, though, had a range closer to 15 feet, and it fluctuated a little. Sometimes I'd have to walk to within 10 feet to get one of them to beep, and other times they'd surprise me and pick up the signal from about 20 feet away. 15 feet is reasonable, but it's far from ideal; that's basically one room-length away. You may very well have to walk around a bit before the tag you're looking for picks up the signal. On the plus side, these things easily pick up their signal even when they're covered up or in a container. I had a friend sit inside the house while I activated the remote from outside, and the receiver went off just fine. Burying the tags in sofa cushions and inside closets similarly failed to cover up the signal. Of course, the beeps are muffled in these situations, but that's not the product's fault.Though the results of my range tests were adequate but not great, I considered giving this product 5-stars for one very important reason: it's priced very competitively. Though the MSRP is $60, at the time of this writing Amazon is selling this set for under $30. Each receiver comes with a CR2032 watch battery already installed, and the box also includes four SPARE batteries. At my local supermarket, 8 watch batteries will run you $24. I give 2Go huge props for being so consumer friendly and putting replacement batteries in the box; they certainly didn't have to do that, and it really boosts the value of what you get. However, there is one scary flaw that convinced me to drop down to 4 stars: when I was experimenting with putting one of the tags in my wallet, it started beeping for no reason. It seemed that the pressure from being squeezed in the wallet was causing it the receiver to activate for some reason. Though I couldn't reproduce it on demand, it happened consistently enough that it made me anxious. What if this went off in an important meeting? During church? During an exam? To be fair, I called my father up (who does have one in his wallet) and asked him if he'd ever had any issues with the tag beeping for no reason, and he said he hadn't. So maybe it's just my set, or his wallet isn't as tight as mine. Either way, it's something to consider. There's also one more thing you should be aware of: the receiver (and the tags, for that matter) is universal. If you press a button, all tags in range that match that color will go off--even ones you don't own. I tested this by borrowing my father's set for a few minutes, and found that using my remote caused both his tag and mine to beep. On this plus side, this means you can order a replacement receiver and have it work with your set. The downside is that it makes this product a little hard to recommend to friends and family members: the more people you spend time with who are carrying tags around with them, the more likely you are to set off their tags when you're looking for your own (and vice versa). Again, just something to consider.Overall, I think the product is a good solution for the key/wallet/whatever-finding dilemma. The tags could stand to be a little smaller (even the thin ones are a little too bulky to be convenient), but as a general-purpose solution, they work as well as you can expect. When I asked my father if he'd gotten much use out of them, he said he's used them a few times to find his keys when he was in a rush. If you're the kind of person who frequently finds yourself missing your stuff when you're in a hurry, these WILL bail you out on more than one occasion. From that perspective, they're definitely worth it.

Works!
Okay, this is an update to the one-star review I emitted originally. The Click 'n' Dig folks are definitely getting their money's worth from their PR people, whom I would hire myself if I could afford to hire someone who works that hard. After viewing my crabby review (below), they got in touch and offered to send a new set (you get the key finder and several other pieces that you can attach to other easily lost items). Surely, said they, the set shipped to me must have been defective. Would I take another one and if it improved, would I consider re-reviewing?Oh, why not? I have nothing else to do during the hours left around the seven 14-hour days a week entailed in running a business. :-D They sent the doodads in the mail.MEANWHILE... Between the time I first posted my original grutch and the time the new package of goodies arrived, I lost my keys not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES.Each time, the Key Finder located the things! Inside a purse...on a piece of furniture where I'd dropped the keys to rescue the dog...atop a countertop where no one in their right mind would ever leave their keys...It's not a matter of standing wherever you happen to be and clicking the "finder" device. You do have to walk around the house, and you do have to point the finder in several directions until it locates and connects with the receiver on your keyring. Its signal will pass through some but not all walls (why, I do not know: possibly electrical wiring or insulation?). Its range is about 20 feet, I'd guess. It requires some patience and persistence on your part, but it does eventually work.Click 'n' Dig sent me a new set, which I gave to some dear friends who are even more superannuated than I after the Missus expressed dismay at having lost her keys once again. This is one of those tools that makes old age tolerable...maybe even survivable.***********ORIGINAL WHINGE: Not sending this back, because I don't have time to hassle with repackaging and mailing. But can't recommend it. These devices are supposed to emit a 90-decibel beep when you point the hand-held radio transmitter at them. Thus if you have one on, say, a key ring, you should be able to locate the keys if you misplace them around the house. We're told the radio frequency goes through walls and has an 80-foot range.Well, if that's 90 decibels, then 90 decibels isn't very loud. According to Purdue University, 90 db is as loud as a "Boeing 737 or DC-9 aircraft at one nautical mile (6080 ft) before landing (97 dB); power mower (96 dB); motorcycle at 25 ft (90 dB). Newspaper press (97 dB)." Dang! I wish!! If aircraft made the same level of sound as this handy-dandy beeper, the skies would be a lot quieter around here!! :-D And my neighbor's Harley would be a lot more fun, too...No, the signal does not go through walls. The range is about 25 feet. Any further away than that, and the transmitter will not elicit a beep. If your keys have dropped out of your pocket and slipped under a chair cushion, you have to be right on top of the chair to get receiver to beep.Could be the gadgets need new batteries, which are kindly included. But the instructions do not show how to find the battery cases or how to open them. On the key fob, it's obvious enough where the battery case is, but you can't get it open -- I split a fingernail and hurt my finger when I tried. On the flat gadgets that you can stick to objects with the provided double-sided tape, I can't even find a CLUE to where a battery case could be opened. ?????????The idea behind this device is truly brilliant. Sure do wish the execution were better.

Good product that could be improved
This works as promised and I like the fact that it comes with spare batteries for the sender and the receivers. There are a few points to be made:1. The 2 fobs that can be stuck to items are too big. They stick out too much for my liking on my mobile and were too wide for my standard-sized remote controls. Why aren't the receiver fobs smaller ?2. The instructions state that they will work through walls but they didn't for me. To be honest I think that you should expect to walk through your house with the receiver button held down until it's within range and the beeping starts when you're in the same room as the item you're looking for. This is still useful because sometimes you can be in the same room and still not see your phone or keys.3. I gave this to mother to use and her dilemma was whether to put the transceiver in her bag so that she would always have it with her for when she couldn't find phone/keys when she was visiting a friend which would mean that she would be shafted if she couldn't find her bag before she left the house, or, leave the transceiver at home so she always knows where it is but would then not have it while she was out and about and couldn't find her keys whilst visiting.4. The receiver fobs are colour coded so you have to remember which colour button on the receiver you need to press to find the same colour fob on the item you are looking for. There are only 4 colours so I suppose it's just a case of elimination.5. It states that you could put one on your pet but the beep is quite loud which I think would scare your pet and cause it freak out and run away which defeats the point completely. So, to summarise, the problem of losing stuff has plagued mankind forever and this device is a reasonably priced, well intentioned product that tries to solve a problem and makes a decent attempt at it. The included extra batteries are a nice touch. To make it better they need to:1. Include two transceiver fobs so that you can leave one at home and carry one on in your bag (whilst having a receiver fob in that bag also, obviously !)2. Make the receiver fobs smaller and much thinner. Why would anyone want to stick a fat receiver on their skinny mobile phone ??

A good product for the absent-minded
I hesitated to buy the Click N Dig! E4 Key Finder as cheaper alternatives are available. However, prompted largely by positive reviews I did, and am happy with the purchase. As pointed out in other reviews, the packaging is easy to open - a consideration for any elderly recipient - and it is easy to get things working. Whilst batteries are pre-installed, spare batteries were also supplied which I found very considerate. No instructions for battery installation were included, but the key fobs can be slid open and the slimline receivers opened with a tiny cross-head screwdriver. The volume of the receivers’ beep is sufficient to locate an item if you are in the vague vicinity (an adjoining room, for example) and the transmitter works well throughout walls and obstacles in the house. I bought the Click ’N Dig Key Finder for a relative who is often misplacing items - usually spectacles - and needed a solution that did not require a smartphone app to locate the stray objects. The E4 Key Finder seemed to fit the bill. The slimline receivers are slightly too large to include within a spectacles case and add to its bulk if fixed to the exterior - this is my only criticism. The key fobs are neither bulky, nor heavy and have already proved to be useful.

A well designed product that works as claimed
(I have purchased two of this item as gifts, and have received one from the seller in exchange for this review.)I have so far found the range and penetration to be very good: you are almost sure to trigger the receiver if you're standing in the same room, and you have a good chance of triggering it in a neighbouring room if you open the doors. The device comes ready to use with batteries already inserted, plus generous spares in the box.One small modification that would be nice to see is more compact receiver units, especially to flatten them. More power in the transmitter would be a bonus as well, although I don't know what the technical and legal ramifications would be of increasing upon the already powerful 12 V/27 A battery. A few more attachment options thrown in, such as clips or hook/loop, would also increase the versatility of the receiver units. However, at this price no one could complain.Overall, a handy device that is instantly worth every penny the first time it saves you from an hours-long search.

Find it...like it
I have had this for about 6 to 8 weeks now. I wanted to give it a decent amount of time before I reviewed honestly. I liked it when I got it and I still like it. It is useful, I've found my keys, adaptions, wires without any fuss or frustration. The fob for your keys look quite cool and the shape and colour also help you to find it in full pockets and bags. Shown this to a friend who has a blue tooth version (another brand). They think that mine is better. It comes with extra batteries.....what's not to like? If you like to be organised...it's for you. If you loose everything....it's for you. If you like little gadgets...it's for you. If you are lost for a gift idea...it's for you. Would recommend this to all.

Cheaper than a Locksmith
As a person who is known for forgetting where things were placed (mainly wallet and keys) and at first glance, this product seems ideal for me.I have been using this product for a few weeks now and have saved myself from a few sofa tear downs and whole house searches. The receivers are relatively small and come in vibrant colours which was great as I wouldn't mind having them on my keys. my younger brothers even attempted to play a game of 'hide and seek' with the flat receivers, Doing their best to obstruct the sound. Rounds never lasted longer than a minute due to the difficulty in doing this, making it unlikely that your items will stay hidden for long. While the device is really loud when unobstructed, the sound becomes slightly muffled (although still audible) when placed under the sofa cushions. I soon noticed that the beep is not audible throughout the whole house, meaning you will need to wander around while holding the locator in order to hear the beep and locate your receiver.I am yet to run low on battery for these devices, but I don't see that being a problem any time soon since they come with a pack of replacement batteries. I would advise other owners of this product to keep the remote somewhere safe (such as a drawer) to ensure it is not lost on a different set of keys.Overall, this product will save you so much time and stress when searching for your commonly lost items. After rescuing my keys, I highly recommend this product and will be giving one of these to a family member who also happens to misplace items from time to time.
