Excellent...but lost me at the end
Loved loved loved this book. Whizzed through it. So intriguing and very clever....until I came to the last few pages and thought 'what the....' What just happened then? Did I miss something? If it wasn't for those last pages it would have got a 5*.It was a such a captivating read up until then. Perhaps I am a bit dim and need it explaining to me. There are too many questions rolling round my head. Definitely give this book a go, the ending may be clear to you (if it is, let me know because I am baffled ) I can't go into what I don't understand without giving away spoilers....frustrating.

Too much back story?
Essentially, there are two strands to the book, one entirely new and one continuing the back-story of Flea and Jack. The new story I found compelling: creepy, disturbing, clever, well set - reminding me of the early Mo Hayder books. I didn't see the twist coming until satisfactorily late on. I certainly raced through to the end.To someone who has not read the previous books involving Jack and Flea, the other story would be puzzling and really unclear. I have read them - but some little time ago, and I struggled to remember the salient details of what had happened to Flea / her parents / Misty, etc.. This rather put me off the book as a whole, which is a pity because Mo Hayder is an accomplished writer of the genre, there is no doubt.

Typical Hayder
I love Mo Hayder, I do. She has the sickest mind of crime fiction - if not of all literacy. I don't know how she does it, but this author makes me squirm. With Poppet, she continues the story that we've all been waiting to continue reading. She does it so well, leaves dead ends, hopeless trails, dozens of false suspects and unanswered questions all around for the reader to get frustrated with.I don't want to say anything about the plot itself, as I personally hate spoilers. To whoever has previously read and loved Hayder, you'll love this. It's sick, it's bizarre and it will catch you by surprise. To whoever has previously read and disliked Hayder, try it. Give it another go. Granted, you'll miss a lot of the long-running story but it makes no difference. The story of the book, of the poppet, will be a good read with or without the history running beside it.To whoever hasn't read Hayder - this is not the one to start with. Try Pig Island, Tokyo or Hanging Hill.

Brilliant - just don't read this before you go to bed!
This is the second Mo Hayder book I have read. After reading the first one (Gone) I vowed I wouldn't read another of hers as it was just too damn scary! However I succumbed and read this one. Well this too scared the hell out of me, I had to stop mid-paragraph and carry on reading the next day. Love the characters of AJ and Issac especially. Of course love Caffery. This is a brilliant story though I am not sure I have the bravery to read another of Hayder's books.

I don't normally read books but this one was amazing and was hooked from beginning to end it's a really good story-line and I would recommend this book to everyone the chapters aren't that long and keeps the reader hooked it arrived on time and in good condition will definitely keep a look out for more of Mo Hayder's books
