Q: Does this taste like the small packages of mccormick turkey gravy mix?

Not sure. I've never used the small packets....But this is delicious gravy for turkey or chicken.. Mixes well no lumps , very smooth. Just don't make it too strong. A little goes a long way!! Superb!!!

Q: Is this the same as the McCormick chicken gravy mix in the packets?

Yes. Just the same but more economical. I use it to make chicken or turkey gravy with the drippings rather than making it only with water.

Q: how thick should this get, as thick as their brown gravy ? i mixed as directed 1/4 cup mix and 1.25 cups water and it was still too thin

If it's not thick enough to meet your needs, just add more. We often use this and some type of soup to make a delicious gravy. And most of the time, this is put in with the meat while it's baking in the oven. McCormick gravy mixes are a standard go-to in our home.
