Cole & Mason and Precision Horsham Inverta Salt and Pepper Mill Gift Set - Manual grinders, 15 cm tall, in chrome

Bought to replace some venerable Cole & Mason salt and pepper grinders that had begun to degrade after many years of service (the matte plastic had begun to get tacky and rubberised, making them less appealing). Bought these on a lightning deal, and I am essentially happy, although I do not think that I would have been as happy at the higher advertised price (n.b.; lightning price is available elsewhere).The positives.The inverter idea is clever thinking, and has resulted in less mess on the table and in drawers.The variable grinder settings for both salt and pepper work well.The throat width for refilling the grinders is wide enough to make the job easy and mess free.The less good.The finish on the lid for refilling is not the best. They do not have the best cut threads, and seating them in the mill housings prior to tightening feels very hit or miss, which is not something that I should be writing at any price point. It feels a tad flimsy, hence one docked star. Given that the mills are being marketed as quality grinders, this is an aspect of the design that Cole & Mason would do well to address for future iterations of the model range. A more substantial and better engineered screw-in base would be welcome.The dreadful! (See attached photos).The grinders have been largely stored in a kitchen cupboard, but as can be seen, the chrome finish on the salt cellar has much abraded through corrosion. As there is no such corrosion on the pepper mill, this can only be attributed to the presence of the salts. (The salt grinder has been used less as I have a tendency to reach for the tub of sea salts when salting food. This is why the deterioration was noticed later than it may have been). The white plastic beneath is plainly visible. This plainly does not affect the grinding mechanism or essential functionality of the mill, but it is unsightly and unacceptable in a product that purports to be a high-end, luxury set. I bought these for myself and not as a gift, otherwise I would be doubly mortified.For the record, the Cole & Mason Precision Horsham Inverta Salt and Pepper Mill Gift Set, Chrome, 15 cm is made in China, and the mechanism purports to carry a lifetime guarantee. If only the finish could do the same!I am disappointed to be amending my review on this item, but my experience suggests that there is probably an underlying quality issue with this item that others should be alerted to prior to making a purchasing choice. I can award the product one star for ongoing functionality, but that seems generous given the cosmetic defects. Very disappointing!

I eat a lot of pepper, and am very fussy with the grinders I use, I put a lot of research in before making my purchase and found that grinders are expensive, and most out there have significant flaws. I finally decided on these because they were a good price (I got them on sale for £21.99) with good reviews. They are great! I really like the adjustable grind setting. They grind a respectable amount of pepper per twist, so I don't have to tire my wrist each time I want some pepper and haven't jammed at all since purchase.I wasn't really fussed by the 'mess free' feature at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. No more salt and pepper piling up under the grinders is a luxury I didn't know I needed. At the price I bought them, they are a steal compared to other grinders out there, it has since gone up in price, but I would still recommend them and think they are definitely worth it.

First thing they look good 2nd thing easy to use when grinding no jumping or sticking so far I think that is down to the ceramic grinders very smooth action also the courseness of the grind can be adjusted by turning the black strip 3 types for salt 5 types for pepper comes pre loaded with s&p which is a bonus I can ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT DOUBT RECOMMEND THESE GRINDERS

I love these salt and pepper grinders. They look good on the table and don’t leave a pile of dust on the table. Easy to use, once you get used to turning them upside down. Good value for money.

Someone producing salt and pepper mills that stand the correct way up. No mess left on the table, cupboard or counter top. Good grind, smooth mechanism and working well. I use them most days and am happy with the quality, cleanliness and salt and pepper output.
