As Lindsey writes in Bow Down, I was looking for a book "to teach me how to demand respect from others".And indeed, this manual was the closest from what I was searching: what could be best than "Lessons from Dominatrixes on How to Get Everything You Want" ?Beyond the fact that the book is funny and liberating, it is also incredibly interesting and will teach you about BDSM from a point of view rarely pointed out. Lindsey didn't exactly give me the magical spell I wished for. In Bow Down I, instead, received genuine advices meant to work in real life situations. It made me understand that my power was not going to come from the goodwill of strangers but rather my own person. In the end, I did get what I was looking for: ways to be and feel more powerful on my daily life.I really look forward to Lindsey's next books and in the meantime, I keep this one preciously.

Don't let the titillating cover art and kinky subject matter fool you: This is a book about power. Goldwert shows women how to shake off societal expectations of being "nice" and how to avoid the cultural tendency to apologize for existing. She shows the reader how to replace asking for permission to want something with making statements that are assertive, empathetic, and crystal clear. We all want to be heard—Bow Down shows us how to communicate effectively and assures us it's ok to walk away if something or someone is not serving your needs.
