Marengo - The First 100 Years (Coral).
Just bought this. (Mainly for the Historic Homes information.) I think it needed more info on the residences.Interestingly, of my relative's homes (originally the Historic 1847 Rogers Brothers' homes), only one of them is displayed (current photo) while the other twin home is not. One of them is officially on the National Registry. I even have seen some renderings of the area, including the houses showing late 19th Century stylized art of folks traveling by buggy, horseback on what is now East Grant Hwy (named in the later in the 20s after President Grant.) The other Ante-Bellum Greek Revival style homes (as well as other styles) are portrayed. I did like the information on the settling of Marengo (Coral). I will probably purchase Lost Farms of McHenry County next. FYI - Marengo has a McDonalds now (chuckle chuckle.) Attached photo is of one of the Rogers homes (whose daughter married E.H. Seward, relative of Lincoln's Cabinet member), photo taken around 1935 ILL144 was a US Govt project to document vanishing farmhouses. This house (pictured) was heavily added-on mid 20th century - the twin home - not. I visited these homes in July 2015 at a family function.
