Q: What kind of battery is required?

Q: I’m proposing in January, will the light last until then if not used?

Yes, I bought this box last year and opened it several times gazing at its beauty and I too feared that when the day came to open it and propose it would be dead. (proposed in the middle of the woods at midnight so I really needed the light). Just the other day (a year and some odd days later, it still bright as ever ...I checked it out so I could tear it apart and use it as a small light for a treasure chest we are hiding for one of the children for christmas ...a map to find the gift type of thing.). You'll be good!

Absolutely, the battery comes pre-installed.

Q: Would man's ring (size 9) fit in here?

A wedding band would fit no problem, but the shank of a large class ring would probably be too big.
