I love the forge itself. Small and easy to set up. Perfect for small projects or blades. It did not come with any refractory cement to cover the kaowool (which can aerosolize and mess with your lungs) nor did they been mention the need I had to order it separately and instal and wait to use . So less stars for that reason

The build and material quality of this unit are excellent however; the supplied tongs are suitable for light duty work only.The assembly instructions are simple but adequate. There is no direction on how far to insert the burner (part D) into the burn chamber. I went with about 1/2 inch and it works well.My first project used 9mm (thick) X 20cm X 2.5cm stock. The forge heated this to working temperature in about 4 minutes. I was running the unit with the regulator wide open at first however, over the course of a few heating cycles I turned the gas flow down and adjusted the air mix valve and, was able to maintain a good temperature at just over half flow.This unit gets very hot very fast, most impressive. As a test, I put a railroad spike in the chamber; it was well above working temperature 4 minutes.Admittedly, this is my first gas forge and, I am not an expert at bladesmithing but less than 2 hours to forge a Viking knife from an old file (including the quench and dressing) is not bad.I also blocked the back of the unit with large firebricks. I would remove these if I was working on a larger item. The burn chamber is 9 inches deep so unless I need the extra space I will keep it closedI like this unit a lot.

This is the first forge I've owned and couldn't be happier. I had a piece of steel red hot in about 30 minutes after receiving the package (including taping all the fittings and soap testing the joints) , assembly was easy and straight forward. The regulator is CSA approved which is reassuring too. Since then, it's seen hours of use and I'm really enjoying the product!If you're on the fence about getting your first forge, I highly recommend this one. The price is unbeatable, and you won't regret it.

I do forge as a hobby and getting the (char)coal forge started and then retired took a lot of time, hence the investment in this. After 3 good uses, I'm really pleased with it. I would have welcomed more instructions on how to best optimize flame intensity/air intake, etc., though, but a little tinkering did the trick. I still have to evaluate the amount of fuel this draws per tranche of time. Finally, you may want to add a couple of refractory bricks behind and in front of the openings of the forge to keep heat in.

This little forge is perfect for small projects and beginners. I have never pounded any metal. I didn't have any help either. I bought this forge, it was delivered 2 days later and the next day I had it set up and fired it up. No hassle, it started immediately and worked. The tongs that come with the product are pretty much garbage, but then again I bought a forge and not the tongs. It is great to have something though if, like me, you are an absolute beginner and I did use the tongs before my new ones arrive. I can only recommend this product. And I may buy the larger model in the future.
