This is a secure wooden box with sticker-type faces put on for the chessboard and backgammon board. It has a good thick layer of lacquer or polyurethane on it to secure the board's faces. This makes the board rather pleasing to the eye without costing five figures for a similarly pretty board. The dice are indeed small, they are the kind used in Turkey it would seem. The backgammon checkers are plastic but make a pleasant sound when used. The hinges are screwed in and appear to be standard hinges. A magnet keeps the board from opening. I suggest getting your own set of Chess pieces and a pouch for those and your checkers since this board does not have any way to carry them.

Lovely board, but it came with the tiniest pair of dice and a betting dice. I have never seen dice so small even with my travel board. Most boards of this quality and beauty would include bigger dice, two sets and the rolling boxes. I would not recommend this set.

Was in great shape, but my husband didn’t like this one. It was too big & didn’t have the holder for the chips like most backgammon sets do.
