Good buy
Have had this over 2 yrs. Easy to install. Reliable. Batteries last over 6 months. Low battery warning. We use the sunrise sunset light sensing feature, works great summer or winter. The string is small and I was very skeptical it would break, but no issues with any part of the unit. Directions are on the unit so when you replace the batteries it’s easy to recalibrate. Ours is installed outside the coop, but still protected from rain. Door has some scratch marks from a predator. But no real damage. I’d buy again.

Worth the hassle see below
My first delivery was a previously used item and was missing a piece. Not so great but I was able to get Amazon to very quickly ship a replacement. My second delivery was a brand new item and I'm very happy with it.The overall construction, fit and finish of the door and parts are plenty good for the price. The controller feels sturdy and is easy to navigate. It's even got reminders written on the outside of it to help navigate the menu. The battery pack is covered with a fitted rubber lid and the whole thing looks like it'll withstand the elements. The door tracks have to be screwed together but you can see in my picture that it's a very good fit.The controller winds up a string to lift the door. The string is pretty thin but it looks like it'll hold up. It attaches to the door with a fishing swivel which is hilarious but actually works really well. It looks like it would be possible but difficult to replace a string if needed. You calibrate the opening and closing yourself so if you were to replace it he shouldn't have any trouble.Something to be aware of is the gaps under the threshold and behind the door. You will have to have some material to fill that in if you want to prevent drafts.Ask for measurements you might be interested in, The door tracks are 23 1/2" tall, The controller needs to be a couple inches above the door tracks to operate properly. My setup that is pictured is 30 in tall. The space in between the tracks that the chicken can walk through will end up being 9 3/4"

Works well, only one issue
I love the device. Nice instructions on how to install and set the software. My coop is in the back of a barn with the large opening to the northeast and therefore the difference in light is not great. Therefore I use time for open and close. Works great for that. The chickens have no problem going in and out. The only issue is that there is no override for open or close if you want to move the door outside of the set times.I like that the door is opened with a string that winds up and down. no smashed chickens! The bottom of the door is protected by an angle bar that shields the bottom of the sliding door from prying little hands.

failed after one year
Update a year later. Went to replace batteries- the door calibration stopped working. The door will go up and down to set the open position but for the closed position only one button worked and it will only go up. Tried switching "open and close" times- it will close but then open and go up and down non-stop. changed batteries to three different sets, no difference. Tried finding manual online or here in Q&A to see if there's reset button somewhere that I don't see- no luck. Searched internet all over for customer service number- to no avail. This happened few hours before I had to leave out of town and I spent few hours in 100+ heat clicking that button forty times for 15:40 current time setting- went through set up about 10 different times! Ended up asking someone to drive over to open and close the door manually. Anyway, downgraded to 1 star since I had to buy another one only because I am familiar with it and only would need to replace the lifting mechanism instead of figuring out if a different door will work with my current opening or not.--- old review one year priorGave it five stars for the price difference between this and competition, which uses the same mechanism box. Resolved the issue with gaps, and it runs without hick ups and glitches.

14 months of use and we still love it!
We have had this door for over a year and it still functions perfectly! Today we had to change the batteries for the first time. We use the timer-timer setting because it can get really dark outside when storms roll through. None of our chickens have ever been harmed - although I don't know if the door has ever tried to shut on any of them. The door operates perfectly in the heat of the summer at over 100 degrees, and in the winter as low as 7 degrees. I would highly recommend this automatic chicken door to anyone looking for one!

needs improvements, poor instructions
this is working fine - installed a week ago. I bought this on recommendation of a neighbor. I would look for a better one next time. for one thing, the string that pulls the door is VERY thin and way too short. I'm not sure how it will hold up outside in all types of weather. The string was too short to pull the door up high enough for my roosters to enter and exit without squatting. I modified it by tying it to a washer and then using a plastic tie from one of my kids toy packaging (see photo) I can't understand why they can't make the string stronger and longer. I also don't like the 3/4 inch gap at the top and bottom of the door when closed - a mouse could easily go through there. I put a filler piece on the bottom and this weekend I'll have to see what i can do to fill in the space at the top without it interfering with the operation of the door. Also, there's nothing in the instructions on how big of a hole you should cut for the door - this is important because you need to screw the side rails to the coop wall so the hole can't be too large.

Zero complaints!
Our chickens are the happiest they have ever been! We weren't waking up early enough to open the coop, our chickens were always impatient. With this automatic door, they are able to get out early and stay out as late as it stays light. We have it on the light/light option and have had no issues with it. The first couple days we helped our chickens adjust, but after that they love it. We have never had it malfunction, and it's been 5 months and the batteries are still good!
