Great start to a new series
I received an e-arc of Gilded from Faber & Faber and Netgalley. Even though I have been gifted this book for review, all opinions are my own. This is my review of Gilded by Marissa MeyerThis is a new series by the author of the Lunar Chronicles which are a series of fairy-tale retellings set in space. This time we are in a new fantasy setting based on the fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin. Once again this author has taken a well-loved tale and made it a unique and wonderful tale. The story is charming as a prince and completely magical. The characters are both engaging and rememberable. I cannot wait to continue the series and to be back in this world once again.Highly recommend it if you enjoy reading fantasy retellings of classic fairy tales.

Unabashedly YA, but what a gem of a retelling
This book and this rumpelstiltskin retelling is so good, filled with a lot of fairy tale lore and many more fairy tales and folklore woven into the text.Loved the beautiful, assured use of language and how the story was told. And now, of course, I cannot wait to see how the story continues in book 2.

Darkly descriptive.
I really enjoyed this. It's darkly descriptive and quite haunting, the perfect antidote to the sugary sweetness that abounds in modern retelling of old tales. An original and interesting take on the story of Rumpelstiltskin. I will very much look forward to the sequel.

Over long
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book. Loved the premise but it was overlong, dragged and, dare I say it, was boring.Oh and there’s a sequel! Won’t be reading it
