theOUTletUSB - Permanent Outlet Extender, 4 Receptacles + 2 USB Ports, Tamper Resistant, 15A, 125V

I installed this outlet behind each nightstand in our room. The installation was easy. I was concerned b/c there were two sets of lines in the box and the new outlet is BIG. Everything fit perfectly, no strain trying to get the wires in. The spring on the front to pop out the outlet is very touchy. So once it was in place and all setup, it stays shut just fine. We do not need all the outlets yet b/c I got the ones with the USB ports on them. They are just fine at 5amp for charging our phones at night. Yes, I would buy more of these and probably will for the family room.

Product sits out a little further from the wall to allow it to swing out. I had installed a deeper box to allow for extra room in the back as well. I also had to slightly loosen the screws to allow the faceplate to swing open easier.

We have 2 kids and that means lots of electronics in our household. For whatever reason, we all gravitate to the outlet in the kitchen. Kids are always unplugging my phone to charge their tablets. Finally, we found theOutlet and it’s been amazing. It’s easy to install and looks so much cleaner than power strips. We got the USB version. Got a few, will install one in the office and one next to the bed. Would definitely recommend.

Would be great if it fit in a metal outlet box...but it does not! ...maybe a newer blue outlet box.

Plastic casing seems to be very fragile

I’m working on a ridiculous home project code-named “Secret Office”, where I’m converting a 4’ x 7.5’ walk-in closet attached to my family room into an office. I found a crystal chandelier for cheap that I hung on the ceiling, painted an accent wall, and placed furniture that fits. All I need, besides a cool bookcase door, is more electrical outlets.Secret Sockets’ theOUTlet USB solved my issue without starting a new wiring project. This product, made in China, doubles your outlets without cutting additional holes in the wall.Installation was complicated by my old work gang box. The electrical wire intakes are angled at the back, shortening the available length considerably. Since this outlet was added after the house was built, it was simple to switch out the gang box with a deeper one. Make sure you have 2” clearance in your gang box as the internal part of this outlet is blocky and takes up a lot of space. Most gang boxes are deep enough, it’s the compression of wires and cut corners that are a potential concern.Once installed, theOUTlet USB doubles the number of available electrical outlets with the touch of a button. There is plenty of room for two standard plugs and a USB cable to be plugged in on each side simultaneously. The extra outlets can also be hidden from view when they aren’t in use. Major con: Does not fit in older metal one-gang boxes (measuring exactly 3”x2”), despite instructions stating that it fits in 3”x2” boxes (my house was built in 1968). Note that even if The Outlet had somehow fit the sides, the current boxes would not have been deep enough due to my 2-wire black and 2-wire red wiring configuration.Well, since I already had this and the non-USB version wired up in two separate rooms by the time I realized neither fit in any of the boxes, I checked whether they *would* have worked. After turning the breakers back on, they worked fine, but they just didn’t fit.Now I’m contemplating whether I want to rip out and replace the existing boxes, or more likely just install new old work deep blue plastic boxes in some other places that I’ve wanted outlets. I checked this product against the new (deep) plastic blue boxes and yes, those fit perfectly.Great product and much more attractive than those extension bricks that plug and screw into existing outlets, but be careful if you have an older home and you’re installing into contemporaneous outlets because it may not fit especially if your outlet box is barely 3”x2” or shallow.

I simply removed my existing outlet and installed this one in its place.
