I loved the movie, it caught me off guard though. It was different from the others but not really. I don't want to spoil it for others but you will like it and the ending , well done you need to watch it.

Not the hillbilly horror remake you were hoping for... not bad either.
A decent horror film, but a God awful reimagining of Wrong Turn—which it clearly isn’t even trying to do.A group of friends hiking the Appalachian Trail stumble across an archaic tribe of long-secluded woodsmen and disappear. Determined to find them, a father (Matthew Modine; Stranger Things, 47 Meters Down) sets out looking for his daughter (Charlotte Vega; Another Me) recruiting whatever help from the rural locals he can.I’m not impressed with this Appalachian cult of deer skull-masked mountain people. Their costumes, camouflage and booby trap shenanigans all seem far-fetched even for a horror movie. These guys always seem to be in the right place at the right time in the otherwise vast forest. It’s not cheeky or charming or amusingly self-aware. Quite the opposite—this is 100% serious and always delivered with a straight face. Yet the events that transpire felt very unrealistic, even in the context of a horror movie. This film’s greatest saving grace would be how it celebrates brutal head trauma across multiple scenes. The first death scene features an awesomely mangled jaw and crushed skull. Some other brutal scenes include a spiked pit trap impalement and a savage cranial beating with a log. These visuals are more pleasing (to gorehounds at least) than the overall movie—which has none of Wrong Turn’s (2003) DNA to be found. In execution, this movie wishes it was The Shrine (2010) and it doesn’t even know it.This script was clearly written for a more northern setting, and set in Virginia (not West Virginia as the source material) to ease us into a Wrong Turn state of mind. It’s sad how obvious it is that this was originally never meant to be a Wrong Turn script. At one point a character refers to hunting moose and elk… moose are found nowhere near Virginia! Perhaps that makes more sense of whatever language they spoke (something Germanic/Slavic/Scandinavian, I’m no linguist). Later in the movie, more dumb things transpire. The “cavern of the blind” was particularly ridiculous and smacked of something in an ill-written Hammer-era movie of the 50s or 60s depicted some lower circle of Hell. The story doesn’t build to anything meaningful or particularly tense. But as critical as I can be, the finale scene was definitely satisfying even if brief. In fact, this movie would probably be okay if it had no association with Wrong Turn. Just call it “Appalachia” or “The Tribe” or “The Foundation” (the name of our tribe in this movie). Not an upsettingly bad movie at all. It’s just fine really. But without gnarly-toothed inbred cannibals, surely a woefully disappointing “reboot” of the Wrong Turn namesake, doing no justice to the original property in any way, shape or form. That just put a sour taste in my mouth. Ultimately director Mike P. Nelson (The Domestics, Summer School) made a decent enough film that suffered from the studio’s desperate attempt to use the title and retain the rights to the Wrong Turn property for the sake of future cash grabs.

Didn't know how to feel after watching this film...
After hearing about a Wrong Turn reboot, I was pretty stoked. The Wrong Turn films have always been mindless fun and a bit of a guilty pleasure for a lot of people. 3 killer cannibals, a group of survivors and a bloody good time. So when I heard that this was releasing, I thought it was pretty quick that they are releasing it and it was kind of concerning. When I received it, I was excited to watch it even though I had heard there was no killer cannibals. So after I watched the film....I wasn't sure how to feel. It felt empty as a Wrong Turn film but completed as a whole film. It wasn't a terrible film but it was gearing towards the liberal message of things. Let me start at the beginning, where the characters are introduced, instead of a white lead character, they made him a black character with the white guy characteristics. The two gay guys in the film were also stereotypes of what gay characters are betrayed to be in film/TV and then a liberal agenda girl. The other guy in the film is betrayed to be a coward because he's white. The only one that didn't seem to suffer was the main female character who seems to stay a neutral type character. According to the behind the scenes featurette, this is how they wanted the film and characters was a liberal point of view.I could dig the concept (apologize if this is giving away too much) that they want to create something new with a tribe of people who fled town into the mountains but adding a liberal agenda just kills it for me. Because I watch films to get away from the non-sense of politics not bring them into my films. Wrong Turn could have been something great as a reboot but I think it just fails to live up to the name. About 3 quarters the way through I was getting bored with the film. There's hardly any deaths, which they use the same death scenes 3 times in the film. There's hardly any scares and hardly enough to really keep you glued.Overall I believe this would have made it on it's own but it doesn't live up to the Wrong Turn name. Maybe a spin off would be fine but to consider this your best and say it is a reboot is a travesty. Here's hoping to the next one will bring back our favorite cannibal killers!

Now let's get you off this mountain.....
Let me start this review by informing all I am a huge horror fan and have a massive collection. It is my favorite genre, and I am very judging. I love all the Wrong Turn films previously and have all on Blu ray. I purchased this here on Amazon, and then read that the film was taking a different direction. Skeptical of course, I went ahead and bought. I was pleasantly surprised first viewing. The typical liberal you should feel bad for being white BS is there, but it's easily ignored, because they actually did a great job on this film, and you must watch it all the way through to the credits. It's a solid horror film with some great twists, but it should not have been named Wrong Turn in my opinion, it should have a different name, the film has nothing to do with the Wrong Turn films. That being said, I am happy with the purchase, aside from a bit of silly whitesploitation, it was actually necessary to set the mood here. Worth residing in your collection, there are some deleted scenes too and good extra's. Pick it up and see.

Not sure if this should have been included in Wrong Turn series
If you were expecting a bunch of deformed mutants killing horny young people a la the rest of the Wrong Turn series, you might not get exactly that. Not too terribly far from it however. That being said, it is an entertaining movie, and if you enjoyed the rest, you will likely enjoy this too.

Reboot.

Worth the watch
Look nothing will compare to the original for me it's one of the movies which got me into horror as a teen but this is a good movie also. It probably didn't need to be a reimagining and would of been just as good with a stand alone movie of its own but having the Wrong Turn name im sure made it few extra bucks and got more to see it. Well worth a watch good story and plenty of action and gore.
