Ordered because I thought I was getting plug in addition to USB plug

IM A PRO KJ AND HAD TO RIP ALL MY CDG FILES TO MY KJAMS LIBRARY. WELL MY INTERNAL MACBOOK PRO DVD PLAYER JAMMED UP MY WHOLE COMPUTER FROM A CD GETTING STUCK IN IT SO WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THE MAN ABOVE-I MANGED TO GET THE CD OUT, BUT I HAD TO GET AN EXTERNAL-FAST. SO I GOT THIS ONE BECAUSE DAVE COTTER SAID IT WORKS GREAT WITH KJAMS. BOY EVER DOES IT WORK!!!! IT USED TO TAKE ME 20 MINUTES TO RIP ONE CDG. WITH THIS NEW EXTERNAL IT TAKES 7 MINUTE FLAT!!!! I CAN RIP THREE CD'S IN THE TIME IT TOOK TO RIP ONE WITH THE MACBOOK PRO INTERNAL DVD PLAYER. DAMN, I WISH I KNEW THIS BEFORE IT TOOK ME ALMOST A MONTH TO RIP 500 CDG'S LAST MONTH!!!!! DAMN, DAMN, DAMN. WELL, IM A HAPPY CAMPER NOW THOUGH!!!!

This device was advertised that it could read and write CDs and DVDs but when I plugged it in, I could not get it to identify a blank CD or DVD. To even get it plugged in, I had to use a usb adapter that over charges devices to charge them faster to provide the correct voltage to make the device work.

I bought this primarily to help me with my job. It comes in handy when I'm reloading the OS on computers with broken CD/DVD drives, or on laptops that don't happen to have one. So far I've only run into one (very old) BIOS that didn't support the "boot from" option, and I can't fault the drive for that. The drive is very portable, and comes with a little dual USB plug, in case one conenctor doesnt supply enough amperage to operate the drive. There is also an external power supply plu, if you come up with your own transformer. I did not test the burning capabilities, but that is because my primary use for this is loading new systems.

So far no problems, but I will say I am VERY careful with it. It seems rather cheaply build and for the price I can see why.By the way I use it to rip Karaoke music on to my Mac.

No driver software included with unit nor on the GearHead site. Device unusable without it (laptop doesn’t recognize the device). Don’t bother purchasing this, find a different unit.

This external dvd player will not work without a power adapter for my netbook. I've even invested in a dual usb cable because my research stated that this suffice in place of a power adapter. Not so. Now I'm on the hunt for a power adapter. Buyer beware.
