This is the 4th 'waterproof' meat thermometer we've bought in less that 18month. Each of the others has failed for variety of reasons but almost always associated with fluid ingress despite their claims to be waterproof.So, I am dubious about claims of IP ratings provided for any of these cheap thermometers, and despite this one being IP rated I'm not going to risk it, which is where the separate probe comes in.I've only used this a handful of times so far (and always with the separate probe) but each time it's worked flawlessly, is fast and responsive. Most importantly though, the actually unit itself has remained completely clear of any food so hasn't needed a cleam, whilst the probe itself is easily cleaned and can even be sanitised in boiling water.Its's easy to read, the target temp (with alarm) is a useful feature, as is the ability to calibrate with ice/boiling water and it takes moments to give a reading. If I have one niggle, it's that the screen timeout is set at 3min and can't be overriden - I like to use it for continuous monitoring when deep frying and I do have to keep turning it back on. It's a minor gripe though and in no way detracts from the functionality.I'm hoping, and expect, that this one will last the test of time. I've yet to use the built in probe, but it turns on and I have no reason to suspect there will be any issues. I'll update the review if there are.

It's very inaccurate and off by 3 or 4 degrees!To calibrate, you need to place it in ice water or boiling water. Depending on which method you use, it will either read 4 or so degrees higher or lower!Immediately after calibration, it will still have an error of 3 or 4 degrees using the same hot or cold pot of water used to calibrate.

I find this product very useful in many ways. It is magnetic so I attach it to my microwave or fridge. Consequently it is always nearby for use. Immediately on opening the probe a reading is obtained. I find it very convenient for measuring the temperature of meat or fish before eating it. Sometimes you find core temperature is a little cooler and more cooking is needed.All in all a useful product.

For something so simple, it has so many flaws.1) The alarm the sounds when the set temp has been reached is so quite its practically inaudible2) It turns itself off before it’s reached the set temp.3) The magnet that allows you to attach it to a metallic vertical service isn’t strong enough to support the probe - it just slides down the wall.4) After a month or so it stopped reading temps with any level or accuracy.

Much better than my old one. Feels better built. Much quicker to read the temperature. The only downside is that it's quite dim so using it outside for the BBQ can be a challenge when it's sunny

Love how it goes on and off automatically and that you can set an alarm to reach a set temperature. Also great magnetic feature so I sticks on the side of the oven while measuring the meat inside!!Clear and easy to see reading

This meat thermometer is awesome, good quality and multifunctional as can be used directly or using bake probe inside the oven. Definitely a good acquisition for my kitchen. Excellent delivery time, delivered 2 days before expected. Would buy again.

This meat thermometer worked perfectly. However , I bought it to use with a garden barbecue smoker and the displays was difficult to read in bright sunlight.
