The Cable Matters cable works, but I use different software
Overview: I have used this cable successfully for 2 years to transfer files between various Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers.Software: I don't use the Cable Matters software; instead, I use powerful file management software. The file manager is intended for power users; the learning curve is relatively long, and the software's capabilities are beyond the needs of typical users. This shareware software is Total Commander (TC), written by Christian Ghisler in Switzerland. I already owned this software, or I could have downloaded it from Ghisler's site.Port connections: I had installed TC on each computer. (1) On the computer to be treated as the server, I use the TC menu commands Net > Port connection to other PC > Server. (2) On the client computer, I use the commands Net > Port connection to other PC > Client. As a result, the client computer displays the client computer folders in one panel and the server computer folders in the other panel.(If I will be away from the computers, I may end the port connection on the server.)Out of sequence: The only problem occurs if I start the client session before the server session. If the connection will not begin, I close both port sessions, eject and unplug the cable from both computers, wait several seconds, plug the cable back into both computers, and restart both port sessions or sometimes both TC sessions.Synchronize: I can select files, typically by using the space bar (not the mouse, which makes it too easy to de-select files by accident). Much of the time, I use Commands > Synchronize Directories. I cannot edit file contents on the server, from the client; I only can copy or delete.File comments: Descript.ion comment files are not synchronized unless I temporarily stop the association between Descript.ion files and the files and folders described: Configuration > Options > Operation > uncheck Copy comments with files.Speeds: If the files being transferred are huge and the computers are doing little other processing, transfer rates sometimes exceed 100 megabytes/second. If many small files are transferred, then the speed will be much slower; this may result in part from the underlying FTP protocol and passing of information about each file. Of course, if either computer is doing something else at the same time, such as a virus scan, then the transfer speed can be much slower.Summary: If you are a power user, you can bypass the Cable Matters software and have a quite satisfactory USB link between two PCs. If you are not patient enough to become moderately familiar with a different piece of software intended for power users, and are not willing to use the concise but accurate help (F1) in TC, then the solution I have outlined is not appropriate for your needs.

Used for MAC Data Migration and Transfers.
Bought this to service a MAC migration. Worked great with the built in Apple wizard.

Speed of transfer
The USB transfer is slow compared to what it was as advertised for. I got at best 42MB/s when transferring from a desktop to a laptop from USB 3 to USB C.When it asks a question about a file that it cannot copy, no question really. it leaves you with Skip or Cancel. Windows gives more options.
