Use extension tubes with a prime lens. Not so good with zooms. Best lenses are those with MANUAL f-stop rings, otherwise you can only shoot with the smallest aperture. You can indeed get way closer and shots will be very sharp.

Hi, will this work on the Minolta Maxxum series of autofocus lenses?? Those are the type of lenses i happen to have, not the fully manual MD/MC mount.

Nope. They do not have the electrical connectors for a motorized lens like those. Sorry this is only for the MD/MC mount style lenses

will this work with Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR FX Lens ?

I've ordered two of these to hopefully double up and attach to the filter threads between ES-1 and 105mm Macro lens. I'm hoping the threads between the rings are 52mm but like everything these days it's undocumented.
