High dose of Omega 3 fatty acids
I had previously been taking a supposedly "high strength" omega 3 capsule from a high street chemist. However, I noticed that it contained 1,000mg of fish oil but only 250mg of EPA and DHA.In contrast, these omega 3 capsules from Healthspan contain 300mg of EPA and DHA. So these Healthspan capsules have more of the important stuff. The capsules are individually protected in the packaging - you can see the yellow capsules in their individual blister packs in the first photo I uploaded. I suppose that should keep the product fresher, although I'm not sure that I was ever worried about my fish oil capsules going off before.I have only one concern about these capsules. The Healthspan product claims to be certified by sustainable products organisation Friend of the Sea. I checked the Friend of the Sea website and looked up Healthspan. As of today's date of writing this review on 22 February 2022, I discovered that Healthspan's certification ran out on 14 February 2022. I only hope that this is a temporary oversight on the part of Healthspan and not a deliberate attempt by Healthspan to con consumers in their marketing of the product. But the fact that Healthspan is not currently certified by Friend of the Sea led me to take one star off from what would otherwise have been a 5 star review.

Small capsules, recommended daily dose 2 to 4 capsules
These are smaller than many fish oil capsules, so they are easier to take. It doesn't mention if it has St. Clements orange and lemon oil to reduce fishy repeat tastes. Each capsule provides 120mg DHA and 180mg EPA. Whilst the daily dose is two to four capsules, the text on the box states that a beneficial effect for brain and eyes is 250mg DHA and, 250mg of EPA and DHA is beneficial the heart. That may guide the number of capsules that you take.

Seems like top quality
I’ve known of Healthspan for a few years and first time I’ve got one of their products. These fish oils seem of the highest quality, and ethically derived. I needed something like cod liver oil with this being described as some of the best Omega 3 supply.Hopefully they do supply my body with good quality Omega 3. Good value from how they are sourced and packaged.

High quality and price competitive
These 160 capsules are 8p each, which is a good price, even though the pack recommends 2 to 4 a day.If you take two a day, for 16p a day, this will give you 720mg of Omega 3 fatty acids – of which 240mg is DHA and 360mg is EPA.This compares well in price to the Boots equivalent. Boots High Strength Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000 mg 60 Capsules (2 month supply) is currently £8.89 or 15p per daily dose before you apply the three for two discount. It provides 250mg of DHA and a much lower dose of EPA – only 80mg.Omega 6 and Omega 9 are sufficiently consumed in most diets – so taking Omega 3 supplements the kinds of fatty acid that are often missing, especially as many of us are not great eaters of oily fish and eggs. EPA and DHA are difficult to increase in your body if you don't eat foods that directly contain them, as your body can only manufacture very small amounts from more basic forms of omega 3.Comes in a capsule shell which is a combination of gelatin and glycerin. These are rounder and easier to swallow than many fish oil capsules I have taken – because the dose is divided into two capsules. The smell on opening is good. Although blister packs may be a case of over-packaging, they are also effective at reducing oxidation and preventing oils from going rancid. It is still important not to leave them lying around in an area that is too warm, and I would recommend consuming them well before the BBE date.Watch out for very cheap deals on fish oil tablets and use reputable suppliers, because concentrated fish oil can contain contaminants. These come with various sustainability and quality labels, including ‘friend of the Sea’.A friend of mine who has rheumatoid arthritis swears by fish oil capsules. Some of her claims are borne out by the US Department of Health and Human Services who comment that: "RA causes chronic pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. Some clinical trials have shown that taking omega-3 supplements may help manage RA when taken together with standard RA medications and other treatments. For example, people with RA who take omega-3 supplements may need less pain-relief medication, but it is not clear if the supplements reduce joint pain, swelling, or morning stiffness."The evidence is a little more mixed for other health benefits from fish oil - though it might best be summarised by saying that omega 3 is essential for many cells and their function and omega 3 in diet, and possibly in supplements, may have preventative benefits for instance in helping prevent macular degeneration and heart attacks.

Superior Supplements
Healthspan are a quality go-to brand for vitamins. They are produced in the UK with quality ingredients. I like that the packaging is recyclable too.I got these for my husband (I take alternative Omega 3 being vegetarian) and researching Healthspan's vitamins compared to other brands, they always come up top. The strength of the fish oil is much stronger than other brands we've previously used. You get 160 capsules - taking 2 per day would give you an 80 day supply, making them reasonable at £13.59 (at time of review).Omega 3 is good for joints, eyes and heart health. These supplements literally just have the 2 fish oil ingredients in. No extra unnecessary extras.Overall I highly recommend.

Good quality product
These capsules come nicely packaged and with a good supply having 160 in the pack they are excellent value for money. They are not to bulky to take as they are not a long capsule, great if you don't like eating oily fish but still want the benefits. Surprisingly there is no smell to them and no aftertaste, so definitely good value all round.
