This thing really works
Our five year old daughter has been sucking her first finger since before she was born. I actually have an ultrasound photograph of her with it in her mouth, and one of her five minutes old, sucking away on that first finger. While it was adorable to see her sucking on it with her bunny snuggled up next to her face, her teeth were starting to really buck out in the front. Plus, she is starting kindergarten this fall and her dad and I agreed it was time to break the habit. We gave her a choice--this device or the nasty tasting stuff that you paint on your nails. Of course, she chose this. We decided to start using it after school got out so she wouldn't be embarrassed. We talked to her about it for a week leading up to the first day. Then, finally, on it went. She was fine for the first whole day. Then it came time for bed and she went into full-on melt down mode and wanted it OFF. I mean kicking and screaming and throwing herself on the floor kind of stuff, which is unlike her. It made me think of a junky going into the DTs. We calmly explained that this was her choice, that we agreed on it, and we let her do her thing. Finally, after an hour, she calmed down, picked herself off the floor, and never said another word about it.She wore it full time (and I mean 24/7 unless I was washing it) for 35 days. At the end, we took it off and she was done. No finger sucking. No desire to finger suck. Completely done. Aside from the initial meltdown, it was very unobtrusive. Sometimes people would ask her how she hurt her finger, as it tends to look a little like a brace of some sort. She would matter-of-factly state that she used to suck her finger and that this was helping her stop. How adorable is that?It needs to stay on. It needs to stay on for the full 30 days. And if you do that, it works. Loved this thing.

I know some parents may think he was too young but I was worried about him creating a really bad habit the longer he was able to suck
This did work for my son who was almost 2 and sucking on his two fingers to fall asleep at night and during nap. I know some parents may think he was too young but I was worried about him creating a really bad habit the longer he was able to suck. He was getting some raw cuticle and a callus bump on his middle finger. When he started to suck his fingers outside of nap and bedtime I knew he was picking up a habit. After talking to my pediatrician, I tried some other methods to get him to stop- we never used bitter polish, but tried socks, gloves, mittens, distractions with toys, discouraging him, positive reinforcement when he wasn't sucking, etc.. It was hard to control the nap and bed time sucking. We used this product as recommended and with due diligence. We didn't take it off except to wash it at night daily and sometimes more than once per day if he needed a good washing that we couldn't just wipe or use sanitizer. It did work within a month, about three weeks, which was good because we were running out of bands because we sometimes used more than once per day. I cut an old baby sock and put it around his wrist to protect it so the band wouldn't dig in and we could get a perfect fit. He wasn't able to slide it off and he didn't suck on his other hand - at night and nap time we put a sock over his other hand just in case. Everyone in public thought he had a sprained finger - so people will definitely ask and be curious about what's going on. The way we knew it was working was because in the beginning when we took the guard off to wash his hands he would almost immediately put his fingers in his mouth. We noticed as the weeks went by when the guard was off for longer periods (eating, bath, hand washing) he wasn't interested in sucking. He wore it for almost the full month. I will tell you that after about 2 weeks the bottom of the tube where the fingers fit and the hand guard started to split. I contacted the company directly and they said they would send me a replacement. It didn't come and I contacted them again and then they apologized and checked their orders and sent another one - I think it was a genuine shipping error but the company responded quickly and politely every time. It was important for me to receive the replacement quickly so I didn't lose any momentum of the guard working going forward. By the time I got the replacement we were on week 3 and had seen much progress. My son is over 2 now and hasn't sucked his fingers since we stopped using the guard several months ago.

Definitely get this for your little finger sucker!
When I bought this my daughter was almost 3. She had been sucking her fingers in the womb - so for basically 3 whole years she was sucking her fingers day and night constantly, and I was terrified that she would never stop. She had sores on her fingers and hardly ever talked because she always had her mouth full. I was so skeptical about this finger thing and thought that she would have major meltdowns etc...but lo and behold it took us two nights of her wearing this contraption. TWO NIGHTS! That's it! We just reminded her throughout the day to not put her fingers in her mouth and put it on at night. She started talking and was like a different girl after that - it was awesome. I owe you guys a lot - so thank you! Now I just wish it was this easy to potty train :/

So pretty much she just switched fingers
My daughter has been sucking her fingers since she was about 2 years old (she's about to be 5). We have tried everything to break the habit, and nothing is working. This does work, but with some "modification" at home. The first few nights, my daughter claimed she wasn't sucking her fingers, but I would go in her room after she fell asleep to check, and i saw her sucking her 2 fingers that weren't in the Tguard. So pretty much she just switched fingers. To solve that problem, I put a thin winter glove on her hand, and then the Tguard over it so she couldn't get to any fingers, and she couldn't take the glove off. Genius I thought! Mom wins. Until, she realized she can suck her fingers on her other hand. So now, I will be ordering another tguard, for her other hand. She will have gloves on both hands, with tguards over it. Seems a little mean, but we are determined to break this habit before kindergarten. So my suggestion is to glove them and then put this on! Solves the problem of them slipping their fingers out, or just sucking the other ones.I really wish the company would sell a 2 pack of these! Especially for the older kids who try to outsmart it.
