Good enough
Other reviews mention that the ink is not shiny silver, and this is true. Depending on the surface, it can look either white or gray -- but that's fine with me. The bottom line is that I needed a marker for dark surfaces. I'm a musician and have around eight black nylon instrument cases, many identical, and also some black nylon or black fabric carry bags. I put my initials on the carry bags, and codes on the instrument cases so I'd know which one was inside. The ink dried quickly and is permanent enough. It will fade when I scratch it hard with my fingernail, but that wasn't a surprise. Being oil based it should remain intact if exposed to a little rain (I don't feel like testing this). Also: don't panic if the ink doesn't immediately seep into the felt marker tip. That took awhile for me, but once the tip was filled the marker worked just fine. Finally: I was able to mark a case that was leaning close to vertical, but the pen worked better on surfaces that were close to horizontal.

BEST METALLIC SILVER EVER!
So I decided to stencil my living room wall and planned on painting the stencil with the Modern Masters metallic silver. Unfortunately that paint completely sucks and is SO sheer that I would never be able to paint enough coats of it that could be seen! So I happened to have one of these markers already and remembered how I had seen a Pinterest post about a girl who did her stencil wall in this marker. I remember seeing the post and thinking what a terrible idea that was because I figured it would not stand the test of time. But I REALLY wanted my stencil done and figured if it sucked, I could just paint back over it with the Rustoleum metallic silver paint I had already ordered off Amazon. Well this marker was SOOOOO gorgeous and PERFECT for my stencil that I had to run to Lowe’s and buy two more because I couldn’t wait for these markers to come in! I ended up running through those additional two markers and two of these three to complete the outlining of my stencil on the wall! This marker PERFECTLY matches the silver of the rustoleum paint! I would have used only this marker but when I tried to fill in the stencil, the marker had left lines everywhere and would not make one solid and cohesive color. You will not find a better silver marker!

I’m glad I am mad patient, yo
At first I thought my marker was dried out, because the instructions sounded delicate so I was delicate. I was pressing the tip nicely, on and off the paper, when I thought “This marker better not be dried out” So I put some elbow grease in my hand, and held that marker tip down for ten seconds, because I’m old school and I knew for a fact that old school Sharpie did not let my older butt down, ish. Anyhoo, I was watching it at eye level, and saw that beautiful silver just slowly travel to the tip. It was oddly pleasurable and very satisfying. Yay, now I can’t put my marker down. I used it for its general purpose, and for purposes I could find, and for purposes I could not understand. Thanks, sharpie! I love my oil based paint marker. Now to find some pine wood to try it on...

Not permanent
Covers well, but wipes off with alcohol or other cleaners.

Unusable
Paint apparently was dried and was never able to use even after shaking vigorously many times
