Is the mesh enclosure removeable?

This mesh is not removable, it is not a liner, it is fixed on the top of the hamper. The mesh can effectively prevent the clothes from falling off during transportation.

Has anyone successfully removed the mesh? If so, how does it look?

The mesh doesn't really get in the way... I'd actually forgotten that there is any mesh. It lays flat up against the inside. I've had mine for long enough to know that it doesn't create a problem, and it's so much better than any of my old hampers.
