A nice book, well-written, interesting stories ...... My 8-yr old grandson is an avid reader and he enjoyed the book.

Although mythological folk tales around the world are many, but this book narrates the most important ones. Beneficial because, it reflects a country's deep cultural values as well.

When I was a school girl I used to love reading about ancient myths , haunted castles and crop circle mysteries around the world. Till date I love reading about such unworldly mysteries and myths that are spread out in different countries around the globe. They provide us with interesting stories with diverse cultural beliefs of a people and historical facts of different ancient tribes and settlements.Rupa Publication's book named Myths and Legends by Sowmya Rajendran had all the reasons for me to pick it up .The cover totally looks creative abd artistic and had that mystic vibe to it.The content is diverse. There are stories from West Africa , Egypt, China , Greece , Maori tribe , Persia Rome America, etc.How Nu Wa, pangu created the world , The Egypt god - Osiris and Iris,How zebra got his stripes,About hermaphrodite ,Greek gods like Perseus, Thor and Andromeda, Folklores from India, Cassandra's prophecy are just few of such stories that will keep you entertained.

Myths and legends act as a foundation for learning and understanding modern Literature. While many don’t believe in knowing about the myths, I feel they are important as they narrate the ancient tales about the world and the experiences of mankind. This, in return, rekindles our curiosity to know more about the past that eventually acts as the compass for our future. Therefore, Myths and Legends is just the book that will re-tell every legend and help the readers take a plunge into folk Literature.A compilation of 22 stories from across the world, Myths and Legends comprises the stories on creation, conflict and churning. Right from answering the questions about the creation of the world, Hermaphroditus or the stripes on the zebra, to answering the questions about the tumultuous quest to achieve a goal like how Thor got his hammer back, the stories are varied yet the strong and intelligent narrative binds the attention so well! Most of the stories we know. But reading them again only gives pleasure! Since I am not a big fan of mythology, this abridged version of the tales suited my interest. I enjoyed the short pieces and could remember more!Brilliant writing style backed by an exemplary selection of stories makes this book a hit for me. Hence, you shouldn’t miss this one!

It’s a book of fiction genre. Mostly it’s for children but I guess people of all the ages can enjoy reading it. It’s a retelling of some of the most well - loved stories from all around the world. I will briefly discuss one or two stories from them so it will give you generalise idea regarding the book. The very first story has been taken from China. It’s about the origin of the world and humans by Goddess Nu Wa. That is one of my favourite stories. The another on is from South African origin about Zebra and his young one explaining about why Zebras have stripes. Author has tried to include all the mythological type of stories all around the world like China, Greek, Persia, South Africa, etc. I liked the story Rustom and Sohrab also. All the stories are well known tales in that areas. The stories include Animals, Gods and Kings like as we do in India. It’s written such a way that people of all ages can enjoy reading them. The narration style of the author is captivating. I almost couldn’t put it down, after I picked it up. The book has pretty cover that gives idea about it’s content. Stories are written in such language that kids can develop their vocabulary plus it’s easily understandable to them. After a long time, I have read such a unique book. Indeed a good one. Strongly recommended from my side.

First of all I will talk about its beautiful cover,its so beautiful. As title suggests its a book of stories of ancient myths and folktales from all across the world.This collection includes myths and legends from around the world is a vivid retelling of some of the most well-loved stories of the world. There are stories of mighty gods and powerful goddesses, mystical women and ferocious beasts, trickster spiders and sleeping giants as you discover how big the world is and yet, how small !Stories connect us all through the ages, with a shared imagination that knows no boundaries. There are different themes like Joy, anger, jealousy, sadness, ambition, pride, love, human emotions. The stories are truly mesmerizing and spell bound you. Each story is unique and if you have read any of them before ,stil it will feel like all new due to different style of storytelling.An amazing tale .

The book had many pages with print missing. Sadly it was past the return date by then. No proper quality check on items being sold through Amazon. Got it for my daughter who was very disappointed at having missed a few stories.
